RE: [OzMOSS] Document library "Send to" feature

You're potentially setting yourself up for some bigtime spam if you delete
every item from that document library I imagine...but that's probably about
all. Or if you need to bulk update the content in the list

So no one has any particular experience with this on a large document library
then?

I'm just trying to get a feel for what to expect before we begin population.

Does anyone know what, if any, overhead there might be if the "Prompt the
author..." is set to Yes and "Create an alert..." is checked on all items going
into what will one day be a fairly substantial document library?

We plan to use these settings by default to manage the integrity of all items
residing in what is considered to be their "final" resting place.

RE: [OzMOSS] RE: Site Directory categories

2008-08-05 Thread Paul Noone
I've done some more experimantation and there are a couple of points of
clarifications about this which I feel are important for anyone else
attempting to manage sites this way:

- The Sites list within the Site Driectory site does manage the
sites list. But this list is empty by default (with the exception of the
Setup MySite top task) and it is only populated if you selected
categories for your site at the time of creation.

- To add categories to sites after creation you need to manually
add them to this list.

- If you relocate your content within sitemanager.aspx then the
URLs for any content within the Sites list also gets updated. Nice.

- You can add custom columns to this list to do some pretty cool
cross-grouping of content that has nothing to do with your actual site
structure. Very nice.

Apologies again to those for which this information seems obvious but in
the absence of any official documentation perhaps this'll save someone
else all the time I've already spent on this.

Hi Paul,

I believe (and I haven't done too much with site directory so I could be
wrong) the site directory is just a list called 'Sites' in the Site
Directory site, if you go to that site you should see all of the sites
in that list, with their categories set as metadata. Update the item
there and you should be set.

The Add Link to site page just adds an item to this list. Normally sites

That said, remember that the page that creates sites, and adds a link at the
same time, is not the page for adding a link to the list - and it has some
restrictions on what can appear there. If you change the list too much, you may
not see the changes reflected in the create site page.
