2008-11-25 Thread Bill Williamson
I'm getting it even when I haven't attempted to post.

Perhaps the time is coming soon for an exodus to a real listserver like
google groups?

Oh, for a real list server. Mmm. That would be nice. ☺

Any takers? I had considered just starting a new one under a different guise
but would be preferable to get consensus and just move the list and its
membership to something that works.

2008-11-25 Thread Daniel Brown
Hardly cause for rebellion or to start another mailing list, I think that’s
overly zealous considering OzMOSS is run my Matt and has been up and running
for quite some time.

A couple of faulty emails is hardly case for a revolt and to splinter the group
into too. :\

OzMOSS has been working fine for quiet a period of time, no need to jump the
gun on this.

Re: [OzMOSS] [listserver] List Posting Error Notification

2008-11-25 Thread Bill Williamson
It's been dropping and mangling emails for as long as I've been on it, and
occassionaly spins out of control (like right now) spamming everyone with
you are not subscribed messages.I personally cannot read at least 1
out of 5 messages due to the list server not understanding multipart mime
messages and mangling them!

I'll make this my last message on the subject unless some other people
agree, but I see no real reason NOT to move to a proper listserv (be it
yahoo or google or anyone else). The ozmoss.com site can continue to exist,
and it would be less of a strain on whomever is hosting the list.

Many posts of late have been design oriented and I can see how it might be
starting to get on the teats of some of the more caffeine-inclined, purist

I actually like this idea of a dev / I.T pro list, But I’d like to see it under
the OzMOSS title. i.e. [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] or something.

But as this list is not controlled by any of us, it’s up to the management of
the list to fix out these issues and move forward. It’s a volunteer effort.

RE: [OzMOSS] [listserver] List Posting Error Notification

2008-11-25 Thread Daniel Brown
I vote we talk to the owner of the list first before making calls on their
behalf without their knowledge.

Then we can discuss a road forward.

As discussed the UG lead meeting earlier this week, Having OsMOSS as a Virtual
User Group in conjunction with the user groups may be very benifital, for both
OzMOSS and the User Groups but I wouldn’t go down the path with a goggle group
for it and certainly not without talking to who runs OzMOSS currently.

RE: [OzMOSS] [listserver] List Posting Error Notification

2008-11-25 Thread Paul Noone
Hear hear!

Can I recommend ozMOSS-dev, ozMOSS-design and ozMOSS-install as a starting
ground? I’m sure there are more but ITPRO seems a little unspecific (no offence
Ishai!).

I’d be happy to co-manage the design list.

Perhaps a page on ozMOSS where member could provide details such as role,
specialty skills, blog and site URL would also be a nice resource.

Similarly, these details could be added to a registered user’s forum account.
However that might also mean moving the discussion board to something more
usable too. I can strongly recommend Simple Machine forums.

Can I just state (if it’s not already clear) that this is not a hijacking
attempt of any sort. I love and support ozMOSS and have found the advice and
solutions provided on this list to be exceedingly useful on more than one
occasion. My only desire is to see it evolve into something even greater.

[OzMOSS] Column-level permissions for lists

Has anyone had any success with adding granular permissions at (site) column
level for a list?

I'd like to add a Sticky custom column to an enhanced discussion list for

A Google search yields dozens of results for the shareware SharePoint
Column/View Permissionhttp://www.sharepointboost.com/columnpermission.html
feature (formerly SharePoint Permissions Boost?) but I'm trying to find a free
solution (preferably with available source).

I did come across the following white paper which describes one method for
achieving this using a custom field type based on a lookup column.

http://www.infoq.com/articles/Dressel-Gogolowicz-wss-security

Would be very interested to hear if anyone else has managed to do this in a
supported manner - and if they're willing to share. :)

Kind regards,

Paul

[OzMOSS] RE: Getting the current view of a list in the updating event handler.

Subject: [OzMOSS] RE: Getting the current view of a list in the updating event
handler.

Hi All,

Regarding this thread, if any on is interested. I have found out the following
regarding this code:

public class ItemEventReceiver : SPItemEventReceiver
{

private SPContext CurrentContext;
private SPViewContext CurrentViewContext;

private String ViewID = ;

/// summary
/// Initializes a new instance of the
Microsoft.SharePoint.SPItemEventReceiver class.
/// /summary
public ItemEventReceiver()
{
if (SPContext.Current != null)
{
CurrentContext = SPContext.Current;
CurrentViewContext = CurrentContext.ViewContext;
//ViewType =
CurrentContext.List.Views[CurrentViewContext.ViewId].Type;
ViewID = CurrentViewContext.ViewId.ToString();
   }
}

...

public override void ItemUpdating(SPItemEventProperties properties)
{
properties.AfterProperties[Title] = ViewType;
}
}

1) The View property is null in the SPViewContext object when using Data
Sheet View. But returns an exception when using Standard View
('CurrentViewContext.View' threw an exception of type
'System.ArgumentException').
2) The ViewId is {----} in theSPViewContext
object when using Data Sheet View. But returns
{7a7621b6-7892-4d6a-bc3f-7a7365b786a6} when using Standard View that looks a
good one.
3) If I try to get the view using the ViewId returned in the Standar View
using this code  CurrentContext.List.Views[CurrentViewContext.ViewId].Type; I
get the same exception that in the step one.

I guess that for some reason the SPConext.Current is not able to get the
current View when using the ActiveX control and when using html standard view,
it is getting the wrong ID maybe because the ItemUdating event is fired when
the page is in the edit page. I think here is more TODO work for Microsoft.

For my porpoise I can use the ViewId to figure out what type of view I am on.
But will be nice to have the proper value returned from the object.

One thing I would like to ask. Is possible to add additional event handlers to
the SPItemEventReceiver? What I was thinking of is to catch the beginEditing
event of a list and see if there the SPContext object has the correct values
there.

Thanks / Regards,

Javier

event handler.

Hi Ishai,

Thanks for you reply. Your answer was not what I was hopping but gives me an
idea of a way to try and I do not give up until I try my last idea.

I remember reading on internet a way to get the current http context adding the
following lines in the initialization of the class:

using System.Web;

namespace SoftwareRegisterList
{
public class ItemEventReceiver : SPItemEventReceiver
{
HttpContext CurrentHttpContext;

public ItemEventReceiver()
{
CurrentHttpContext = HttpContext.Current;
}
...
}

Yes, but the HttpContext do no have any reference to the SPView. Then I check
the SPContext and I found that has a ViewContext property that return a
SPViewContext object that contain an View property that return an SPView object.

Then, I tried to use the same code but changing the HttpContext to SPConext
like this:

public class SoftwareRegisterEventReceiverItemEventReceiver :
SPItemEventReceiver
{
SPContext CurrentContext;

public SoftwareRegisterEventReceiverItemEventReceiver()
{
CurrentContext = SPContext.Current;
}

And yes, I get the SP Current Context but for my desperation the ViewContext
property is not instantiated. Then I saw that was a CurrenContext method in the
 SPItemEventReceiver class. But again no luck and here is my first question:

Why is an overridden CurrentContext method created when you add an event
handler if this method does not exist in the SPItemEventReceiver Class at all
and then it will never fire? I suppose the answer is the TODO summary
description on the top. :o)

At this point I am running out ideas but I would like to ask if you or any in
the news group has tried this path and what was the outcome.

Best Regards,

Javier Martinez

[OzMOSS] Enable Data Source Library

2008-11-25 Thread ken zheng

Hi All:

   I have a site created from site template which is set up by external
partner. When I open the site from SharePoint Designer, the Data Source Library
is disabled. And only Office SharePoint Server Enterprise Site
features and Team Collaboration Lists are active. Just interesting to know
which feature I need active to bring Data Source Library back or somewhere else
to configure.
Cheers

Hi Ken,

You might want to take a look at your Contributor settings within SharePoint
Designer and even disable them if you're able.

[OzMOSS] Search scopes and PDF documents

2008-11-25 Thread Andrew Haughan
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had come across the following problem and
could point me in the right direction to a solution.

I have installed the FoxIT PDF iFilter to index PDF documents which
seems to be working fine. I then created a search scope which limits
items to a particular content type via a property query. The PDF files
are uploaded to the document library as this content type and then a
full crawl is performed. The problem is that none of the PDF files
appear in the search results for the scope. It appears that the search
scope is not including any PDF files as when you create and update the
scope the number of items in the scope is less than it should be (i.e.
not including the PDF files). If I do a search via the entire site it
finds the PDF files without fuss. This means that the indexing is
working correctly and so it must be something to do with the search
scope.

Any help would be much appreciated.
