Ok, I understand. I am not opposed to including flang in this build, if I
can get it to work. Is there a way to set some kind of variable to limit
the concurrency for building (only) these targets? Like
LLVM_PARALLEL_LINK_JOBS works today. What if test-release.sh defined
LLVM_PARALLEL_FLANG_COMPILE_JOBS to "1" (or I defined it in
-configure-flags) and there were some cmake magic that handled that input
to control how the build were invoked? I think that would be a good
workaround.

Metcalfe's law - people are going to tend to use the medium that they are
able to reach the audience on, but not necessarily because it's superior.
Mailing lists have the benefit of long-term incumbency.

I think I would prefer maintaining the status quo but if I woke up tomorrow
and the conversation had moved to Discourse I would join it there.
Regardless of whether it had moved by mandate or popular adoption. I
suspect others may feel similar and therefore the traffic is not a good
metric of preference.

I'll add a local python build to get the test suite going.

I can open a bug, let me know if there's particular data beyond the logs I

Tom, the 9.0.1 final binaries didn't (yet?) make it to the github release
page https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/releases/tag/llvmorg-9.0.1

I also checked https://releases.llvm.org/ because I recall some debate or
back-and-forth about where the releases should go and/or redirects or links
from one to the other. But they're not there either.

I don't think I have a preference regarding merge commits but having a
status check where some subset of build + test takes place is a really good
idea, IMO. It would be great if it were applied for everyone but if that
causes too many problems, I would settle for opt-in. Preferably not
all-or-nothing on the check.

Regarding the scope of the check (boldly assuming one would be in place):
the more, the better (so long as it's stable and tolerable to the team).
Some dev teams that use GH have a bot that optimistically batch
builds-and-tests commits and when failures inevitably happen, contributors
are encouraged to triage and re-enqueue their PR for being built if they
can surmise the failure is not due to their change.

When contributing changes upstream, it takes away some of the
stress/challenge if you have some independent automaton verify that your
change doesn't cause regressions. As it stands I feel like I should be on
standby for 24 to 72 hours after the commit in order to investigate/revert
if my change causes someone problems. I realize that it's prudent to limit
the scope such that the checks don't create an enormous backlog.

rc1 did not exhibit this mismatch. A repeat of the rc2 build repeated the
mismatch. I diff'd the disassembly between phase 2 and phase 3 and the
difference is the same on both builds. The difference follows:

rc2 build on Ubuntu 16.04 saw a stage 2/3 mismatch on X86IselLowering.cpp.o

I can pass along logs if anyone wants to investigate.

Tom, releases.llvm.org only shows Windows and FreeBSD tarballs for 7.0.1
from what I can see.

Also, the front page of https://releases.llvm.org/ needs a new entry for
7.0.1 in the table under "Download".

Isn't libc++.so dependent on libc++abi.so?

The final version of 6.0.0 has just been tagged from the branch
 after
r326550. It has the same contents as -rc3 modulo release notes and
 one
 small x86 fix (r326393).

Please build the final binaries and upload to the sftp.

For those following along: this means llvm-6.0.0 is complete, but
 it
will take a few days to get all the tarballs ready and published
 on
the web page. I will send the announcement once everything is
 ready.

It was just brought to my attention that the RPATH configuration isn't
uniform among the libraries produced by the release. Some use
$ORIGIN../lib/ and others have none. Is this by design? It seems like it
might be ideal for all of them to be configured the same way. If that
makes sense I'll create a corresponding feature request.

2017-08-11 Thread Brian Cain via lldb-dev
Much or all of "Bitcode/simd_ops/simd_ops_*.test" (254 failures) seem to be
failing for me with SIGILL. I'm guessing that my host CPU doesn't support
the instructions we're testing?

Is there already a bug on this failure? Are there any CPUID-style feature
detection flags I can easily add to mark these tests UNSUPPORTED for, or
would I have to write this detection feature?

Re: [lldb-dev] [Release-testers] [3.9 Release] Release Candidate 1 has been tagged

2016-08-10 Thread Brian Cain via lldb-dev
[earlier I had accidentally sent this message to only Hans, re-sending as
reply-all now]

When I tried rc1 on sles11.3 x86_64, msan's getrlimit test fails to build
for lack of prlimit(). SLES11.3 has glibc 2.11.3. Is there a minimum
required glibc? I think this test implementation previously used
getrlimit(), which is present on glibc2.11.3.

While I sympathize, I wonder if a survey is appropriate. It gives equal
weight to all voices but not all voices are equally impacted by the
pros/cons. I am in favor of a github/lab/etc transition but I've only
lurked on the list and built/tested a couple of releases for older
platforms. I would think opinions of those who have lots of work with
commits/reviews/content should probably be weighed heavier than mine.
Perhaps the survey could ask for a voluntary high/medium/low activity level
for normalizing the votes?

I discussed this more with Eric off-list and I think we've come to the
conclusion that this was not a regression, it was my error.

It's a bit tricky -- what should I expect for a new platform? All failing
tests are likely failing because they can't be/aren't yet supported? It's
tough to distinguish -- are they real bugs to be fixed, errors in the
build/release process?
