Manifesto for London.pm election

2010-10-04 Thread Leo Lapworth
As requested, here is a brief statement of my intentions should I be elected
leader...

1) Carry on as we are mostly, lots of excellent people already do lots of
the organising

2) I won't make every social (not even sure about this week now), but I'll
try make more than I do at the moment

3) Be open to other people wanting to organsie other stuff

4) I already maintain the website (with others) so I'd carry on with that

5) Will answer emails / act as point of contact for London.pm

I was going to say 'may the best person win' - but that's not
really appropriate :)

[ANNOUNCE] London Perl M[ou]ngers October Social, 2010-10-07, The Gunmakers Arms, Clerkenwell

2010-10-04 Thread Dagfinn Ilmari Mannsåker
The London Perl Mongers October Social will be this Thursday 7 October
at The Gunmakers Arms in Clerkenwell, where the lovely landlord Jeff
will have foamy ales, clear and cloudy ciders, fizzy lagers, tasty foods
and tables reserved in the rear room. See you there!

The Gunmakers Arms
13 Eyre Street Hill
London EC1R 5ET

Beer and food selection updated daily on https://twitter.com/thegunmakers

Standard blurb:

Social meets are a chance for the various members of the group to meet
up face to face and chat with each other about things - both Perl and
(mostly) non-Perl - and newcomers are more than welcome. The monthly
meets tend to be bigger than the other ad hoc meetings that take place
at other times, and we make sure that they're in easy to get to
locations and the pub serves food (meaning that people can eat in the
bar if they want to). They normally start around 6.30pm (or whenever
people get there after work) and a group tends to be left come closing
time.

If you're a newcomer or other first timer (even if you've been lurking
on the mailing list or on IRC) then please seek Léon (the guy in orange
with a stuffed camel) out - we have a tradition that the leader of this
motley crew buys the new people a drink and introduces them to people.

If I vote for a human, the wrong camel might win!

Egbert has forced me at gunpoint to say on his behalf:

" If elected, I will do the following:

  * Ignore your trivial fleshy concerns;
  * Use my dictatorial powers to appoint Leo as your new leader;
  * Kill all humans "

Leadership Election: Nominations

2010-10-04 Thread Dave Cross

Nominations for the leadership election closed at midnight. I have
received the following valid nominations.

* Leo Lapworth
* Amelia the stuffed camel
* Egbert the BBC stuffed camel

It might be interesting if the candidates were to post a brief statement
of their plans for the group.

As Leon said in his original email, the election will open in two weeks
time (on 18th October). I will send more details of the voting procedure
nearer to that date.

Cheers,

Dave...

How could anyone resist voting for him? It is, after all,
World Animal Day today (and I believe Francis of Assisi loved stuffed
animals as much as any other animal).

Amelia shyly asked me to tell you all, "Aw, you made me plush!"
