Re: Anyone heading out to YAPC::Asia?
Thanks for the info Jesse. On the hallway and pub track front, do you think it will be worth trying to linkup with some Japanese pm members (Tokyo, Shibuya etc.) before heading over? There's usually a fair bit of content in English, but not necessarily in every slot. As a westerner, I wouldn't go to YAPC::Asia for the sessions. The hallway track is quite good. And the pub track is stellar. I'm not aware of any translators, but I was assuming that English would be the common tongue for Asia as well (although I'm sure there will be a strong Japanese presence). They have not accepted many talks so far, but if you click on each talk, the language of the talk, and availability of subtitles are listed. http://yapcasia.org/2012/talk I was hoping that Larry Wall and a few other's presence this year will help to encourage more international participation. [ANNOUNCE] REMINDER: London Perl M[ou]ngers August Social - 2012-08-02 - The Somers Town Coffee House, Euston, NW1 1HS
Hi again, This is tonight! Hope to see as many as possible of you there! ilm...@ilmari.org (Dagfinn Ilmari Mannsåker) writes: Hi all, The August London.PM social will be next Thursday, August 2nd at The Somers Town Coffee House in Euston. The pub servers tasty ales, lagers ciders and foods, a we have space booked from 18:00 onwards. The Somers Town Coffee House 60 Chalton Street Euston NW1 1HS http://london.randomness.org.uk/wiki.cgi?Somers_Town_Coffee_House,_NW1_1HS http://www.thesomerstowncoffeehouse.co.uk/ Standard blurb: Social meets are a chance for the various members of the group to meet up face to face and chat with each other about things - both Perl and (mostly) non-Perl - and newcomers are more than welcome. The monthly meets tend to be bigger than the other ad hoc meetings that take place at other times, and we make sure that they're in easy to get to locations and the pub serves food (meaning that people can eat in the bar if they want to). They normally start around 6.30pm (or whenever people get there after work) and a group tends to be left come closing time. If you're a newcomer or other first timer (even if you've been lurking on the mailing list or on IRC) then please seek our Glorious Leader Tom out - we have a tradition that the leader of this motley crew buys the new people a drink and introduces them to people. -- ilmari A disappointingly low fraction of the human race is, at any given time, on fire. - Stig Sandbeck Mathisen
Call to beer: Tuesday August 7th, Dirty Dicks, Broadgate
Hi In order to celebrate the momentous occasion of me having an evening off Daddy Duty, I propose beer at Dirty Dicks, a home of chocolate and banana yumminess, on Tuesday August 7th. Combined with the dark forces of UKNOT, also invited, we shall take over as much of the 1st floor as is needed. I'm good for the first £100 of the bar bill using the powerful talisman that is the abmx company credit card. Fellow exhausted parents especially welcome, we can form a support group. See you there! -- Martin A. Brooks http://antibodyMX.net/ - antispam antivirus email filtering.
Started getting London.pm list digests but I don't know why
Hi guys, It looks like around May 31st (london.pm Digest, Vol 79, Issue 12) I started getting daily London.pm list digest emails, but I don't know why. I don't think I did anything to turn this mode on? If I log into mailman and visit http://london.pm.org/mailman/options/london.pm/kaoru--at--slackwise.net then my Set Digest Mode setting is set to Off. Is anybody else experiencing this? Note I am getting digest posts *and* regular posts, which I don't think is even possible with the regular settings. Thanks, - Alex
