[ANNOUNCE] London.pm Dim Sum, Thursday 16th October, Docklands

2014-10-11 Thread Tom Hukins
Hi all,

London Perl Mongers will meet for lunchtime Dim Sum on Thursday at
the Lotus Floating Chinese Restaurant:
http://www.lotusfloating.co.uk/

Dim Sum involves sharing a selection of small dishes amongst a group:
http://www.lotusfloating.co.uk/menu/dim_sum_menu.html

It's a couple of minutes walk away from Crossharbour DLR and about a ten
minute walk away from Canary Wharf tube:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/169119484#map=17/51.49782/-0.01526

We visited this restaurant in March and enjoyed it. If you plan to
attend, please let me know so I can warn the restaurant of our numbers
in advance. Everyone's welcome for a casual lunch eating tasty treats
whilst discussing Perl and related matters.

Let's meet outside the restaurant at 1pm (if you work in the same
office as me, we'll leave 10 minutes beforehand).

Tom

propose meeting up for some dumplings, steamed buns and other tasty treats.

FYI: I'm on the digest form of the list and it turned up in my email at
Thursday 12:10pm which is a bit late to decide to go.

I'm not precisely sure the algorithm the list digest uses to decide when to
send things out but I would guess it's something along the lines of which ever
is the sooner of
 - 24 hours after a post is received
 - more than a certain number of posts are received

Aka - maybe send these things out on Tuesday...

Or just sign up to the list as a list. The traffic volume isn't going to
overwhelm you.

That's a shame, but Sue helpfully also posted to the low volume
announcement list and I added it to our Google Calendar last night.
Please consider tracking either of these if you want to find out about
events in a more timely way.

Thank you, Sue, for organising Dim Sum: I hope everyone who could make
it is having tasty food and interesting conversation.

There's london.pm-announce, which exists for people who want
announcements of important stuff (like dim sum) without all the chat.

But, as Joel points out, the raw list doesn't have anywhere near the
traffic that it used to have[1].

I couldn't send it out on Tuesday because I hadn't decided to do it until
Wednesday. On the bright side, we'll probably do that again and soon.

and the next time March 3rd is on a Wednesday won't be until 2021. The

Hi all,

London Perl Mongers will meet for lunchtime Dim Sum this Wednesday at
the Lotus Floating Chinese Restaurant:

Dim Sum involves sharing a selection of small dishes amongst a group:
http://www.lotusfloating.co.uk/menu/dim_sum_menu.html

It's a couple of minutes walk away from South Quay DLR and about a ten
minute walk away from Canary Wharf tube:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/169119484#map=17/51.49782/-0.01526

I've never been here before, and when I walked past today it was
closed - apparently it's always closed on Mondays - so we'll have to
treat this as an explorative adventure into uncertainty.

As an extra treat, Nicholas Clark is visiting London and will join us
for lunch, hopefully not in dumpling form.

Let's meet outside the restaurant and head inside at 12:50 (to beat
the 1pm office-leaving rush). If you plan to attend, I'd be grateful
if you let me know in advance.

All are welcome for a casual lunch eating tasty treats whilst
discussing Perl and related matters.

I hope to see you for lunch on Wednesday,
Tom

London.pm Dim Sum, Canary Wharf, Thursday 14th March 1pm

2013-03-12 Thread James Laver
It's been a bloody long while since I summed dims, dimmed sums or ate delicious
dumplings. Given that I spend far too much of my time around Canary Wharf, I
miss most of the list-organised ones. Accordingly, it's time I stopped being
lazy and organised one.

We did this one a very long time ago and I seem to recall we had a little
difficulty getting seated, so if you know in advance you want to attend, please
email off list; the fewer ransomers we have on the day, the higher our chances.

London.pm Dim Sum Thursday 1pm Imperial China

It has been but a blink of an eye, by geological standards, since I last
ate dim sum - even so I have a strong compulsion.

London.pm dim sum is a social event where we meet up some Thursdays at
1pm at a different Chinese restaurant, spend about an hour (and about
10 quid cash) eating tasty dim sum (steamed and fried dumplings), then
go our separate ways.

Alas, since I last attended a Dim Sum I've changed jobs, and am now
nowhere that part of London or I'd join you.

Would anyone like to comment on the attendability or palatabily of
Ping Pong, near the Tower of London?
Nothing specific, no dates yet, just a RFC .

Very attendable (for me), reasonably palatable, relatively expensive.

I'd likely make it out there is someone suggested it, I find ping pong a
bit pricey but pretty. I've mostly been posting on weds or the thursday
morning of possible dim sums, so anyone wanting dim sum close to them will
likely beat my suggestion if they post earlier in the week. Or do as dom
