Is anyone actually using Google App Engine for new projects?

Unlike Compute Engine, it doesn't have Microsoft and Amazon undercutting it on
price twice an hour*

And it's stuck on Python 2, despite Google (seemingly) being partly a Python
shop:

(I'm wondering when Google will show their hand on that ticket.
Was the Perl request ticket the only one they closed, or are they having a
cleanup?)

Redhat's free openshift gives you perl 5.10 (yes I know but newer than many
us use at work) and ssh access.

Free with some restrictions.

I used to 2-3 years ago, but not anymore.

They closed C# at the same time (
https://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/issues/detail?id=8 ). It's
interesting that they closed Perl, but not Ruby, even though Perl had more
stars/votes... My guess is that they might try to get JRuby next to the
others, or try to get PHP and Go into stable.
