varaibles that weren't getting exported. everything's working fine now.

[luau] redhat service script LD_PRELOAD

2004-02-19 Thread Kevin English
Hello,
   We wrote a custom red hat service script (red hat 7.3), put it in
/etc/init.d/ and added it using chkconfig. This script fires up a java
process which runs one of our applications. The problem is, when the
service launchs, somehow it loses the enviorment variable LD_PRELOAD
which we set in the service script. We tried making a wrapper sh script
that sets and exports the same variable but get the same results. Does
anyone know if there is some kind of weird thing about red hat or red
hat 7.3 where it would lose this variable?
  Thanks in advance.

Re: [luau] MySQL Querry Question

2004-02-04 Thread Kevin English
you've got the right idea... u could also try something like:

UPDATE songlist SET filename = replace(Filename, 'F:\Heavy\', 'E:\music')
WHERE
substr(Filename,1,8) = 'F:\Heavy'

take a look at string functions:

http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/String_functions.html

why is it not suprising that the guy named "mad dog" is listening to heavy
music.

[luau] control arrows in bash

2003-09-17 Thread Kevin English
ok this may be a silly question but remember: there are no stupid
questions, just stupid people.
  In redhat when i my command line (bash), i can use the control arrow
keys to jump from word to word when i do my command line editing. like
if i have a command like './do.sh arg1 arg2 arg3 arg4 arg5 arg6 arg7
arg8 arg9', i can use control left arrow to move the cursor back one arg
and control right arrow to go forward one arg. kind of like typing 'w'
or 'b' in vi. Now i'm working on a debian system and this does not seem
to be enabled. I have to do the emacs style 'esc-f'/'esc-b' but with the
'esc-f' you can't hold down the 'esc' key and just keep hitting 'f', you
have to release it everytime which gets annoying.
  if anyone knows how to enable the control arrow thingie in the shell i'd
be forever in your debt. i'm sure it's just some silly one line thing i
can pop in my .bashrc

Re: [luau] Perl Frustration!!

ah, u have to extra lines here.and u forgot the most important one

 ## start here...
 use strict ; ## makes people declare variables with 'my'

 my $sql = "select wkstncpu.sn, ipaddr from wkstncpu
 where wkstncpu.code = $systemcode;";
 my $sth = $dbh->prepare($sql)
or die "Cannot prepare: " . $dbh->errstr();
# start the query
 $sth->execute() or die "Cannot execute: " . $sth->errstr();
 # fetch result and assign
 my ($cpusn ,$ip) = $sth->fetchrow_array();
 $sth->finish;

perl, what a great language
