[Lubuntu-desktop] samba
Hi, I don't know how others are getting on with pyneighborhood, I've been struggling, it seems that I am not alone with samba. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1426517 There appears to be gremlin in the works :-( Regards, Phill. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop Post to : lubuntu-desktop@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Lubuntu-desktop] Severe bug of Lubuntu installer
HI all, Previously I test lubuntu from the repo and I didn't try the installer. Today I tried it and found a serous bug. Some unicode fonts are missing. I select zh_TW locale and boot, and then, all the text cannot be displayed due to lack of fonts. So I'm not able to do anything since all text on the screen is not readable at all. Would Lubuntu developers please check this? It seems that fonts needed by some languages are missing? Please make sure every language listed in the boot menu has proper fonts for them. Otherwise those languages which are not supported should be removed from the list. Thanks ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop Post to : lubuntu-desktop@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Yes, I needed to install the japanese language to enable Kanji writing. Another thing.. have you ever tried EasyScan? It's in the Lucid repos. 神癒礁湖 · Rafael Laguna www.rafaellaguna.com · rafaellag...@gmail.com ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop Post to : lubuntu-desktop@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] samba
Thanks, I've only ever had MacOSX and Win connected via Samba, and I'm using a set of instructions for pyneighborhood that are for a an earlier release. As pcmanfm uses gvfs for the smb part, and there appears to be an elephant in the room re: the core 10.04 and samba I'd hate to start pointing fingers. I don't have enough knowledge of samba to state yes / no as to if the bug others are seeing on 'main' 10.04 carries over to lubuntu, but I figure it would. I also cannot state if pyneighborhood uses the gvfs interface, but it would make sense if it did. Hopefully one of the lubuntu devs could tell us if the reported gremlin in the 10.04 area would affect lubuntu. My own thought is to hold back until they have it fixed in 10.04 main, but I am completely open to being corrected and being informed that the samba issue with gvfsd-smb-browse does NOT have any effect on lubuntu. Assuming we wait until it is fixed for ubuntu 10.04, I'll then set up a share with that, so I know it all works - Then I'll try with Lubuntu. I'm open to any comments / suggestions, though :-) Regards, Phill. On Wed, Mar 17, 2010 at 5:29 PM, Phix phix@gmail.com wrote: I can help with testing if you'd like. Pyneighborhood was something I tried in karmic lubuntu before installing alpha 3, and it didn't work very well there either, but that might have been from the bug in samba main. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] samba
Why not just use /etc/samba/smb.conf ? simply add this sort of thing to share a folder: [DOWNLOADS] path = /home/andy comment = Some stuff browsable = yes read only = no writable = yes hide dot files = yes guest ok = no invalid users = root bin daemon nobody named sys tty disk mem valid users = andy as an example from my file server sharing my universal home folder, people get so tied up on gui tools when the conf file can be easily learned, especially as the file is so humanly readable. Oops, sorry, I mean Simple-Scan (not easy). Anyway there's no possibility for choosing resolution with this tools, but it'll be enough for most users. 神癒礁湖 · Rafael Laguna www.rafaellaguna.com · rafaellag...@gmail.com ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop Post to : lubuntu-desktop@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] samba
Andy, I am quite happy at CLI, in fact, when i get racked off with a GUI app, I go to CLI - However, not all people are. And we've been asked to test the GUI apps. If a GUI app fails, then we can check the CLI equivalent to see if it is the fault of the GUI app, or a bug. An easy example, Xarchiver couldn't open a zipped file, because unzip was not installed. Things like that are 'major' problems to new users. Easy for me to find, I went to CLI and issued 'unzip ~/Desktop/filename.zip' and was told unzip had not been installed. :-) Regards, Phill.
