Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Is it acceptable to add even more new strings to PCManFM at this time?

Hi list,
I found yet another issue with current PCManFM last night.
Names of some menu items are not self-explainatory enough.
It's not easy for beginners to figure out what the menu items do.
I just learned how to add tooltips for menu items and show them in
status bar.

If we can add proper tooltips for menu items, this can greatly improve
usability.
I know we're in string freeze, but is it acceptable to add even more
new strings to PCManFM at this time?
The number of strings that needed to be added is about 30 ~ 40.
This is quite important for usability.
Since currently PCManFM is still in beta and its quality didn't meet
the requirements of a stable release, we won't have a stable release
or release candidate very soon. So we still have time to finish all
the translation prior to final release.

Opinions from translators?
If you guys allow me to do so, I'll add them later and inform you on
the mailing list when I've done it.
Otherwise, I'll leave them in a git branch. But I'm a little bit worry
about git branch because it doesn't seem to work well with some
translation systems and there might be conflicts in the future.
If these new strings are not going to be added this time, I'll release
pcmanfm 0.9.5 in about two days.

Anyways, I want to know what you think. So translations please share
your ideas with me.
Thanks!

Hmmm, I’d prefer 0.9.5 out as soon as possible and the tool tips added to
the next version. This would gives us a reasonably bug free version for
Lubuntu.

[Lubuntu-desktop] BUGS: VISUDO PERMISSION NOT WORKING

2010-04-25 Thread Pierre Yahoo
Visudo permissions do not work. I tried to give myself
permissions for password-free actions typing sudo visudo in
a terminal (e.g. to hibernate using a shortcut (launcher)
myusername ALL=NOPASSWD:/usr/sbin/pm-hibernate or myusername
ALL=NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/srm to make a secure-delete trashcan).

It does not work, the same command and launcher worked in
Debian and Puppy but not in Lubuntu.

It works, however, if I already signed in with password in a
terminal or Synaptic.

Thanks.

Works just fine for me in Ubuntu. I don't see why it wouldn't work for you. If
it needs you to sign in with a password first, it means that the NOPASSWD part
isn't working. Try sudo -k in a terminal followed by sudo
/usr/sbin/pm-hibernate in a terminal and see whether it prompts you for your
password.

It had not occurred to me to offer to help with this aspect of

So, if someone wants to point me in the right direction, I'd be glad to

Thanks - I'll have a look. Cheers, David

I’m relatively new to translations but, if you need any help give me a
shout and I’ll see what I can do. What variation of English do you use?

There’s a package available in the repos called something like
eee/eeepc-control/script that sets up the hotkeys for some of the eeepc
range.

Thats a really bad idea and destroys system security completely.
I strongly advise nobody to do this, its a REALLY bad idea.

[Lubuntu-desktop] Quicktime not working

Hosoka and myself have been trying to get Quicktime to work with no
success. It works on Chromium with Ubuntu but not on Lubuntu. We have
w32codecs installed along with restricted extras and the Chromium extra

[Lubuntu-desktop] Wiki updates

2010-04-25 Thread Julien Lavergne
Hi,

Before the final release, I updated the wiki [1] to be easier to use. I
hope you will like it.

The documentation part is still very limited. Any help to improve it
(writing articles/tutorials, linking to interesting and existing wiki
pages ...) are welcome :)

Regards,
Julien Lavergne

Apple has changed the Quicktime sites (especially the trailers) to only accept
clients which are sending the right quicktime id (version string). I wrote a
little shell script to fix the quicktime support for zevenos a few weeks ago.
Its simply a call for mplayer + the right version string. So if you want to
play a quicktime trailer go to the trailers site, copy the link to the mov or
mp4 file, open up a terminal type in sh /path/to/script/quicktime and paste in
the url (sometimes you need to shorten out the width and heigths added after
the mov video url) . It works very well, also with the quicktime keynote
streams. (udp over http is enabled for them to work)
Ubuntu uses gstreamer and the totem plugin to make it work. Obviously they
included a patch for this. The mplayerplugin needs to be patched to make it
work again inside the browser. So not really a fix for now, just a work
around.
