[Lubuntu-desktop] Very nice looking

2010-05-10 Thread Marti Martinson
Very nice looking distro! I was so very worried that NO *buntu 10.4
would be able to load on my Ubuntu 9.10. EVERY Alpha, Beta, and RC
LiveCD of 10.4 Ubuntu, Xubuntu, and Lubuntu FAILED to boot. Your Stable
Beta finally would boot up. (Bug #545367)

Are there any plans to include, by default, the gnash or swf-dec
players, or the OpenJDK or iced-tea (I think that is their name),
plugins? I don't think there would be any license issues, as these are
OSS. And a user could have a YouTube and java experience right
out-of-the-box.

I'd like to finally force my Mom to get onto the Net, and a LiveCD box
with NO hard-drive might be good.

Thank you for all your work. Much success to Lubuntu!

Viel Glueck.

Bonne chance.

Marti

[Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu 10.04 final beta: issue with WEP on P1120

2010-05-10 Thread RocWoof
I have a Fujitsu Lifebook P1120 (original netbook form factor). It
has a Transmeta Crusoe CPU at 800Mhz - about equivalent to 400 Mhz
Intel - and 240 MB usable RAM. Lubuntu runs fairly slow compared to
Puppy Linux, but acceptable - about equivalent to my Nokia n810 Internet
Tablet: click/tap, wait a few seconds.

Pro:
One nice aspect is that it supports the P1120 touchscreen (unless coming
back from suspend, in which case both touchscreen and trackpoint fail to
respond - same thing I have seen with Crunchbang 9.04 and Puppy 4.x).

BUG:

This is a deal-breaker for me: the WEP 128 support for the built-in
Prism wifi is failing to decrypt the packets from 2 different access
points (AP) in my house, whereas that was never a problem with Puppy or
Crunchbang on this PC. I look at the iwconfig output, and it seems to
be associated, and the correct keys are shown, which I compare to the
key settings (copy/pasted from file on flash drive I always use for this
wifi setup to avoid mistakes in key entry) of another notebook
accessing the same AP's, and they are identical. The good PC shows
zero invalid crypt counts, but the P1120's invalid crypt counts keeps
climbing, so it looks like something is wrong with the WEP decryption
implementation.

I could connect via the wired interface, and got a kernel update last
nigth (I think - with several other updates), and the version is now
2.6.32-22-generic.

TIA,
RO

Hi Martin,

good idea about the website. I saw that you are already active in the
Linux community, so this is great! It would be good if you could form
a team of a few people to share the tasks.

I am currently only shortly in front of the computer. Will send you
the design tomorrow and upload it to the wiki. The Drupal version is
version 6.

By the way, I have not received an email from you. Maybe it landed in
spam. I dont know.

All the best,

Mario

Hello,

our Czech Ubuntu community wants to make a new czech official website
for lubuntu - www.lubuntu.cz . Please, can you give me the Drupal theme
from lubuntu.net? With which version od Drupal is it compatible? Have
you any another experience with building site about Lubuntu?

I've sended this e-mail to Mario Behling, but I haven't got a reply
yet,
so I'm trying to use this mailing list.

Thank you a lot. Excuse my english, I hope that you've understood.

Have a nice day.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Very nice looking

2010-05-10 Thread Andrew Woodhead
I agree but most users will want the full flash / java experience. The open
source versions do not have the full capabilities of the proprietary
versions but some form of option could be incorporated into starting the
live cd etc etc to achieve the below without infringement of license etc.

Glad you like the release though dude :) I think it's awesome and long
overdue.
