If you install a full ubuntu then install LXDE then automount is ok.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Inclusion in 10.10 [Disk Mounting]

2010-05-18 Thread Phillip Whiteside
Hi Andrew,

When you install a desktop on top of another desktop (lxde on top of gnome
in this case) you get all the applications associated with both Desktops.
Where you to strip out the gnome desktop fully, then pysadm would go with it
(along with things like OpenOffice etc. etc.).

Regards,

Phill.

Andy,

I was not 'having a go' at you :-(

With pysdm installed on my lubuntu system, setting up the automounting is a
doddle, that's why I have asked for it to be considered as a default
application for lubuntu :-)

2010-05-18 Thread Andrew Woodhead
I didn't think you were dude
:D
No worries duder.

Personally I hate automount, it gets in my way. Sure I put in my USB stick
but I don't want to use it til later, yet the stupid file browser pops up
and gets in my face. It also gives security as the file system is only
mounted when required but I guess most users plug stuff in when required etc
and new users will be used to the "windows" way.

Swings and roundabouts..

[Lubuntu-desktop] IRC and Help

2010-05-18 Thread Phillip Whiteside
Hi,

1. Could whoever has the correct privileges please alter the topic on the
IRC to also point people over to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/DocumentationHelp for when none of the
'gang' is in there (I missed some one asking for language support, which is
on the documentation).

2. There are requests made for dual screen support, people with 3G modems
that do not work etc. When I am active in the room I can point them to an
'It is not officially supported, but this may help" area. Would it be
possible to include them into the wiki as a 'not officially supported'
area. At present the only way to get a 3G device working is with Eugene's
work around, and such minor delights as dual screen support is clearly
flagged as not being 'official' but so far works for everyone who has tried
it.

Regards,

Phill.

None of our developers own dual monitors. So this is not possible at
this time since we're not able to test it.
If someone can donate a monitor, or donate some money to buy a second
monitor, I can try it.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] IRC and Help

2010-05-18 Thread Phillip Whiteside
Hi PCMan,

were it not for the fact you are so far away, I'd happily ship you one. Same
goes for the testing of samba on a Win machine. Grandr is simply the front
end to xrandr (
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-change-display-resolution-settings-using-xrandr.html)
as it is part of the system already it should not break anything, and as I
previously said it would only be there as a 'try it' and not officially part
of lubuntu until a decision was made. I did ask about it some while back
when I posted this http://forum.phillw.net/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=84 In its
defence, no one who has tried it has come back and complained it does not
work, even had an OP with a twin view nVidia card for whom it worked.

Regards,

Phill.

[Lubuntu-desktop] samba and windows

2010-05-18 Thread Phillip Whiteside
hi,

I was just chatting to a couple of those 'nice people' about pysdm, it's
limitations and if a user of it could get support on the main forum area
(which is yes) and I mentioned about the on going saga with samba. Here's
one to try in fstab

# Samba
//server/share /media/samba cifs user=user,uid=1000,gid=100,noperm 0 0

# "Server" = Samba server (by IP or name if you have an entry for the server
in your hosts file
# "share" = name of the shared directory
# "user" = your samba user
# This set up will ask for a password when mounting the samba share. If you
do not want to enter a password, use a credentials file.
# replace "user=user" with "credentials=/etc/samba/credentials" In the
credentials file put two lines

# user=user

# password=password

# make the file owned by root and ro by root (sudo chown root.root
/etc/samba/credentials && sudo chmod 400 /etc/samba/credentials)

If you get chance, give it a try :-)

For ntfs stuff, I've been reminded of ntfs-config for those with windows on
their systems who want to share a hard drive easily (which some one pointed
out earlier on the mailing list).

Regards,

Phill.
