2010-06-06 Thread Phillip Whiteside
Hi,

thanks for replying, one of things that was discussed was that the banner
should say 'Click here to Download Current Release' and 'Click here to
Download Development Release'. I mentioned 100 px for height as I think the
text would wrap to three lines. Or if you send me that banner with no text
on at all at about 600 x 100 px anyone who wanted could add whatever text
they wanted ?

Thanks,

Phill.

I don't know, I was sort of stuck for time when the inbuilt cd checker
failed and needed something that worked, the dd command was in the 'How To'
that I found and read up on, it allows the use of 2Kb blocksize for speed,
i've never done a speed compare :-)

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] marketing

2010-06-06 Thread 神癒礁湖 · Rafael Laguna
I'm working in a theme (mockup only for now). The marketing items, such
as banners, sticks, and other things, will derivate from the main
aesthetic line and, remember, this "a bit like a democracy", so you'd
may not vote for my next theme proposal. This week I have pllaned to
publish the first designs: panel background, menu button, gtk2 theme
(now made by me, Clearlooks was not accepted for everybody, too
"vintage") and wallpapers.

Independent of this, you can mail me here (or my personal address) about
your needs in banner's sizes and messages. So, I'm waiting your
suggestions. That you pointed is taked now (banner at 600 x 100 px).

Thank you.

Is the dd really necessary? I remember doing "md5sum /dev/cdrom" and having it
work just fine. :-)

The check cd for defects has a reported error where it says that one file
has failed the test, you can run the md5checksum from the command line to
verify the cd

   dd if=/dev/cdrom bs=2048 count=266741 | md5sum

For the current 10.04 Lubuntu image, you should get

I followed your advice, thanks!

Because, for the current version of Lubuntu, the latest versions of
lubuntu-desktop, PCManFM, libfm, etc. are in there and not in the
repositories so you’ll end up with a rather outdated version.

It's XUbuntu not Xubunto. Please read:

Did you MD5 test the image you downloaded? Errors in the image may cause
issues. Did you also check the CD for defects (When the stick man at the
bottom of the screen appears press space then select "Check CD for

A bad CD WILL make a bad installation experience.

Thanks! Chromium and Java works just fine with Sun's Java. It would be
much nicer if it would work with icedtea and openjdk, of course. Hope the
bug in chromium will be fixed (the xulrunner workaround in the bug Julien

Java support on Chromium is quite unstable, it was working sometimes
during Lucid cycle, but it seems now problematic. See
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/529242
Also note that if it's working on Firefox, it doesn't mean it will work
on Chromium.

Thanks, but unfortunately that didn't work - still doesn't show up in
about:plugins either

will investigate further and maybe check out Midori (thanks Richard).

And BTW:

No flames :-)
Just one thing: Chromium is free software. That way, it's not a bigger
problem than a lot of other things, and people can always fork it if
they want. If Microsoft were to release Windows under the GPL, I
wouldn't have a problem with Windows either :-)

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Java/IcedTea not working in Chromium

2010-06-06 Thread Richard Austin

Carsten

I can understand not installing Firefox but Chromium maybe isn't the
answer until it's completed? I could argue that using Google software is
like using Windows - a sell out to the corporates - but i do not want a
flame war thank you!

I'd suggest giving Midori a try - it's very quick and light on
resources. It runs fine on my Samsung 6000 with 256 ram and Lubuntu.
Link for it is: http://www.twotoasts.de

Should be ok.

Personally I use the .bin file from www.java.com
as all the systems I'd need java on are 64bit. I then symlink

Java and flash n Ubuntu all run at 32bit via a 64bit wrapper which I
think is horribly convoluted and ungraceful despite there being 64bit
native plugins available.

What I'm getting is basically a blank (rather, black, the HTML

I installed Java and the plugin by installing the
"ubuntu-restricted-extras" package which pulled the openjdk and
icedtea
versions of Java and plugin. This works FINE in Firefox on Ubuntu

Anybody knows what's wrong or how to put it right? :-) Is there a

Thanks, will try that. As I said, the funny thing is that this works
fine in Ubuntu Desktop 10.04, with Firefox. This might mean it's due to
some bug/missing dependency in Lubuntu packaging?

And, maybe it would be nice with a "lubuntu-restricted-extras" package
with things that work (like Sun Java instead of Iced Tea) and possibly
more lightweight selections in some cases?

(I know, wishing out loud instead of doing something about it myself.
Alas, I like using Lubuntu but don't have time to contribute to
development at this time.)

The Java plugin is NOT detected in about:plugins, only Flash and

The installation seems to be fine according to your instructions, tho:

Try checking "about:plugins" in Chromium, and see if your Java plugin's being

[Lubuntu-desktop] Java/IcedTea not working in Chromium

2010-06-06 Thread Carsten Agger
I'm using Lubuntu 10.04 on my netbook, an Acer Aspire 110 with 512 megs of
RAM, and it's generally a pleasure.

I have one problem, though - the Java plugin seems not to be working in
Chromium. I want to play Runescape, the MMORPG at www.runescape.com.

What I'm getting is basically a blank (rather, black, the HTML background)
page where the Java applet should be.

I installed Java and the plugin by installing the
"ubuntu-restricted-extras" package which pulled the openjdk and icedtea
versions of Java and plugin. This works FINE in Firefox on Ubuntu 10.04 on
my other computer.

Anybody knows what's wrong or how to put it right? :-) Is there a problem
with Java and Chromium? Maybe not, though - epiphany seems to give the
same result (I won't install Firefox).
