Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] PPA for lubuntu-software-center

2011-09-10 Thread Gareth Rigby

Hi all,
I'm running Lubuntu 11.04 (Natty) and it seems to run fine from the
menu, not tried the cli, but will when i fire up my laptop. The only bug
I get is when I load it up it stay greyed out until I select Expert mode.

Well done to all the numerous developers, who make Lubuntu a great OS
for computers that should be on the scrap heap!

Hi everyone.

I'm Jean Austin of Ubuntu Team Philippines. I read about this
interesting news in OMG! Ubuntu! online a few days ago and decided to
try it. I am running a virtualized Lubuntu 11.10 that I recently
upgraded to test the beta. However, like Matthew, I encountered the
same error message when launching Lubuntu Software Center in a
Terminal (with and without 'sudo'). I also tried launching it from the
LXDE menu but unfortunately had problems too.

I tried filing a bug report but an error box appeared and said
[Problem in ... lubuntu-software-center] "The problem cannot be
reported: This is not a genuine Ubuntu package."

Probably missed something to add or do?

I'll try some things more and would report to this list as soon as I can.

Glad to be of help anytime, anywhere. Regards to everyone in the team,

Jean Austin / Philippines

P.S. Is there a way we can export this email thread to Launchpad as a
whole bug report?

Ah well,

there goes my last few brain cells. I thought it was for 11.10 and
was not aware it was being back-ported in a complete test version
that has bugs back to 11.04. Still, you learn something new every
day :)

If some one could please clarify this for me, I'd really
appreciate it!

Phill.

I'm not a fan of the solution, because it will add a non translated
entry in the menu. It's also not really dynamic (doesn't deal with
pulseaudio when it's running), and alsamixser is not really
user-friendly (it's still a command line program which emulate a GUI).

I didn't plan to fix this problem with this solution. My idea was to
enable the "Configure" button when you right click on the volume applet
on the panel. So, as it seems to be an annoying bug for people, I take
some time to implement this. You can test the result by adding the ppa :
ppa:lubuntu-dev/staging . The lxpanel will be available in a few minutes.

This is the behavior :
- If pulseaudio is detected, it will try to launch the gnome-sound
preference if it's installed. If not, it will look at pavucontrol.
- Else, it will try to launch gnome-alsamixer, and if it's not on the
system, try to launch "xterm -e alsamixer".

It will offer a GUI for sound configuration, with a bit of dynamism, and
without adding an English entry in the menu.

Please test it (you need to reboot after installing lxpanel) and give us
feedback about this solution.

Regards,
Julien Lavergne

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Testing, and md5sums that vary???

2011-09-10 Thread Phill Whiteside
Hiyas Josh,

things get a little more complicated when you take into account that some
people prefer SHA's. The download page that people are directed to does also
have the SHA1's and SHA256's for those who prefer to use them. the column
for md5's is historical, and back to when we used to spin our own images.
The iso's once running, do have the option to check the cd before you
install so you can still work 'offline' once you have your image. This
further checks that cd burn was successful. There is nothing worse than
trying to install a corrupt CD!

Regards,

Phill.
