Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu, energy efficiency and sustainable computing

2011-02-14 Thread Kristian Nordestgaard
Hi John,
Welcome aboard. To me, the environment is third or second, to be honest ;).
I find it very nice to have (old, bad) batteries last longer and I also like
the idea of having a fully functional desktop on a computer that costs a
fraction of what a new machine (as would be required for the "mainstream"
OS's) would cost. So economics and battery life is what decides it for me -
with the environmental effect (or more precisely, lack of effect) is an
added bonus. As for the scientific proof of the battery efficiency - I have
not seen it, but I think it makes very much sense because you have lesser
and smaller processes running, simply. I hope this is of use to you and look
forward to seeing Lubuntu on the cover of Time magazine ;)

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Suggestion: Move these apps from "Preferences" to "System Tools" (UPDATED)

2011-02-10 Thread Kristian Nordestgaard
Ah - I was going to but thought the other would be lost without the context
(I'd not noticed your last mail was addressed to the list as opposed to just
me). Sorry, still learning the ropes about this mailing list thing. Once
more, good job!

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] How many OSs do you use?

2011-02-09 Thread Kristian Nordestgaard
I hope this works...

I have a lot of OS's installed:
Linux Mint
Slitaz (x2)
Tiny Core Linux (x2)
Lubuntu
Ubuntu (without X)
KolibriOS (only one not linux)

I use these for various things. Mint is my "daily" OS. KolibriOS
"because I can" - the others somewhere in between. Still trying to get
my head around TCL, though.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Suggestion: automatic removal of "ubiquity"

2011-02-06 Thread Kristian Nordestgaard
Sorry, that seems to be a nonexistent problem. I did a semi-borked
install on a machine and the package was still there. I just checked a
later install and it was not so I guess there is no bug in this case.
Sorry about the inconvenience.
