Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] 431 users!

Yeah, I never heard of it.  I found Lubuntu by way of  Peppermint.  I wanted to know more about lxde and Lubuntu showed up on my google search.I still use both distros.  I like them both, but I find I mostly use Lubuntu.  Tim-- Sent from my HP TouchPadOn Nov 20, 2011 8:57 PM, Andrew Woodhead wrote: On 21 November 2011 01:38, wrote:

I'd be willing to bet many more use lubuntu that don't read OMG

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] [12.04] Firefox instead of Chromium?

2011-11-06 Thread ohiomoto
I also agree.   Both browsers are widely accepted work equally well for general use.   I think the question should be a) do we want to pick one and stick with it for the sake of consistency or b) always choose the lightest of the two?Tim-- Sent from my HP TouchPadOn Nov 5, 2011 9:07 PM, Julien Lavergne wrote: Hi,

I'm not very fan of a change unless we have a strong consensus for another browser. But, this is my opinion :
- We should only consider Chromium or Firefox, because they have a strong upstream and are well maintained. Browser is a very important part of a system, and we really don't have time to do maintenance on it. Adopting Midori for example, means we have to do the maintenance on Ubuntu (triage bugs, testing, maybe some packaging ...).
- Benchmark are needed, because just saying it's light, doesn't mean it's always light. Also, the memory usage for Chromium is special, because it shares memory (there is an article from a dev of Chromium somewhere in the Web which explain it).
- Finally, it needs to be light on old hardware. Remember, it's the main target for Lubuntu. So far, Chromium seems better on this type of machine.

So far, I don't see advantages to switch to Firefox. Of course, if the benchmarks show a real difference, I may reconsider my opinion.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Extend desktop across dual monitors -- a feature I would like to see in Lubuntu 12.xx

Sounds great.  Will the configuration go back to default when I disconnect the extra monitor without rebooting or will I need to reconfigure it?  Can you save more than one configuration? Can this kind of functionality be built into the system at some point?Thanks,Tim-- Sent from my HP TouchPadOn Oct 6, 2011 1:09 PM, Julien Lavergne wrote: Le 10/06/2011 02:44 PM, Tim Bernhard a écrit :

There is another trick that I use for my desktop, to workaround the
limitation of lxrandr :

1. Save a configuration using lxrandr => you should have a
~/.config/autostart/lxrandr-autostart.desktop
2. Install arandr
3. Configure your desktop using arandr
4. Save the layout inside ~/.screenlayout/layout.sh
5. Copy the command line (starting with xrandr) in
~/.screenlayout/layout.sh, and paste it in
~/.config/autostart/lxrandr-autostart.desktop, by replacing the text
after "Exec="
6. On each restart, this layout will be preserved.

[Lubuntu-desktop] [Bug 522031] Re: installer crashed lubuntu

2010-11-02 Thread ohiomoto
I also had the installer fail on my Acer. I was able to get around this
by selecting the option to "Discarded on shutdown, unless you save them
elsewhere". Once I had a Live USB made WITHOUT persistent data, the
installer worked flawlessly except for the fact that Lubuntu didn't
include os-prober which is another issue.

FYI:
Without os-prober grub only shows Lubuntu. To get around this run sudo apt-get
install os-prober. Run sudo os-prober and then sudo update-grub.
