There is a new kernel, 2.6.32-23 available in Lucid and as per Daniel Hallett's post, there is no notification in Lubuntu about any upgrade. Just a friendly reminder to upgrade to the new kernel. And don't forget to reboot to effect the change (and there's also no warning in Lubuntu to do that).
Oh, and if the grub being set to mbr (sda) is not from Lubuntu, another reminder to go to the OS where the grub is set and do a 'update-grub' so that it will boot to the new kernel in Lubuntu (otherwise the old kernel will be used).
