[Lubuntu-desktop] pcmanfm bug?

2011-08-04 Thread write

Hello,

I (sadly) noticed a problem on pcmanfm.
Here you can find the discussion on ubuntuforums

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1817738

The main problem is that the command paste is active on the context-menu when
you right-click on a folder on which you don't have write permission.

This create a big problem when trying to cutpaste any folder to a destination
folder on a usb drive on which you don't have write permissions: the original
folder(s) is(are) lost!

As explained in the discussion this happens only trying to cutpaste folders to
a usb folder without write permission.

As explained in the discussion here's a way to produce the error:
###

1. create a folder on your desktop
for example ~/Desktop/test/

2. mount an external usb on which there's a folder on which you don't have
write permission
for example /media/usbdisk/nowrite/ root:root 755

3. cut your folder on the desktop paste it on the usb folder using the gui,
which simply means:
- right-click on the folder test on your desktop and choose cut
- use your filemanager to go to the usb folder and right-click on it and choose
past

4. A window with the progress bar will open with an error on it saying test:
Error creating directory: permission denied

After that the original folder test on the desktop disappears, and of course
there's no copy on the target folder.
As a consequence you loose your original folder and all data in it!
The original folder is removed while the error window is shown, the removing
process doesn't wait for the user to press the close button on that window.

###

Is this a bug?

Never noticed that before. I always open pcmanfm as normal and go to the
Tools menu if I require 'root' access.

Must not click Send before I've finished writing.
Must not click Send before I've finished writing.
Must not click Send before I've finished writing...

Anyway is this a recent bug or was it in older versions?

when I open pcmanfm as root in my home dir it returns permission denied
It does not mater if I open it with sudo , gksudo or from the pcmanfm menu .
if I dismiss the permission denied box I can browse and manipulate the dir
as would be expected , see attached screenshot .
