Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] About GPicView
A Debian Developer (Kanru Chen) said that viewnior uses modified gtkimageview which he wants to get rid of and depend on libgtkimageview0 package instead. Currently, I am claiming this package in Debian and struggle to put it on Debian. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] About GPicView
Hello, what about contacting the XFCE people to work on one lightweight image viewer?Xubuntu discussed about Ristretto because it isn´t very good and they also looked at replacing it with Gpicview.Maybe if we combine resources we end up with something better then both Gpicview and Ristretto. -Glenn Date: Thu, 18 Aug 2011 21:00:15 +0800 From: pcman...@gmail.com To: lxde-l...@lists.sourceforge.net; lxde-i...@lists.sourceforge.net; lubuntu-desktop@lists.launchpad.net; pcmanfm-deve...@lists.sourceforge.net Subject: [Lubuntu-desktop] About GPicView Hi everyone,As the original author and prior maintainer of GPicView, I'd like to ask for some comments from users and other developers. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] About GPicView
Wasn't Mirage developed for XFCE initially? I think it's a great viewer and can crop images too (no other can). But I don't know its development status. I love EOG colour profiles support, but I know it's unthinkable that layer on Lubuntu. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] About GPicView
Please try Viewnior before making comments. It's better than GPicView in many ways. It has all the feature GPicView has and is as fast. It's GTK+ 3 ready, too. Though I don't like to drop my own program and use others', I see no reason not to use it because it's indeed superior than mine. Even better, it's desktop independent. Please give it a try and give me some feedback. Developing another one with XFCE devs is not needed. I see no reason to do so. Viewnior is good enough for this. If it's not, I'm sure that several patches will be enough. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop Post to : lubuntu-desktop@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] About GPicView
I just installed Viewnior through their PPA, here are my results and thoughts... 1) Memory usage[1]: viewnior: 23.0 MB gpicview: 20.0 MB Pretty much identical, Viewnior is just as fast if not faster when browsing through a folder of images. 2) Thoughts: So far Viewnior is great, I like it. If this is what you want to do (Gpicview is your project after all) I'd support your decision. It's fast, light and has ability to crop images (a very big plus tbh, especially for Lubuntu's targeted audience). We should also look into other alternatives before deciding however. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] About GPicView
2011/8/18 PCMan pcman...@gmail.com Please try Viewnior before making comments. It's better than GPicView in many ways. Except in Ram consumption: for the same picture (very small one) i have 8,8 for gpic and 13,6 for viewnior. Other than that, i'm lliking it so far :) Though I don't like to drop my own program and use others', I see no reason not to use it because it's indeed superior than mine. Even better, it's desktop independent. For Set as Wallpaper doesn't work here on Lubuntu 11.04 Please give it a try and give me some feedback. Developing another one with XFCE devs is not needed. I see no reason to do so. Maybe not needed, but if the light desktops could join in some projects, *maybe* things will be easier. Viewnior is good enough for this. If it's not, I'm sure that several patches will be enough. Does this mean that viewnior will be adopted by lxde??
