Re: [lubuntu-users] new software needs testing

2019-08-21 Thread Ian Bruntlett
Hi,

Did more testing
* System pauses a lot after typing password in at login. Maybe there should
be a "Password OK" message?
* Firefox - Watched & made notes whilst viewing YouTube video OK - "Bad
ass: Making Users Awesome" (Kathy Sierra).
* Could not find equivalent of "Software Updater" - looked in "Muon Package
Manager", did a check for updates & it listed too much - it included stuff
about "Not installed software".
* Accessories->Compton slowed down the GUI. Am not a fan of windows or
menus fading in/out
* Leave->Shutdown "Do you want to really switch off your computer?" even
when no applications are running.

HTH,

Ian

2019-08-21 Thread Fritz Hudnut
In line comments, couldn't get the Phab links to work in this session
running the persistent live 19.10 in usb2 flashdrive:

Alrighty, mea culpea, I **should** have known the "cd" . . . but I prolly
would have missed the "~" part. So I ran those commands and I checked the
"Have sddm auto-login" and I changed the Theme from "breeze" to "lubuntu" .
. . then I went on to the "killall compton" stuff, that'll be posted
below. On reboot I ran back through the sddm commands, and the settings I
had changed were intact . . . I changed them back to what they were and
hit "apply" . . . . Nothing happens too fast in this usb2 flashdrive
system, but I'll check to see if the old settings are back where they were
in a day or so.

Ran these commands and on return it said "compton: no process found" . . .
wasn't sure if that was because I had "killed" it, or other distinct
possibility I was still in "Downloads"?? can't remember, but trying to
"exit" out of Downloads seems to "exit" out of the Terminal entirely, which
I don't remember happening before. Anyway, I then typed "compton" and I
got the data posted below. The top lines over the compton command shows
the bottom few lines of a long string of the "sddm" data, and then the
"compton" data. Once I figured out I was still in "Downloads" I restarted
the terminal and ran "compton" again . . . got the same basic data.

Also, while this was going on I watched a video on YT . . . seemed to be
more or less "OK" . . . only "issue" so far is that some of the command
menus didn't seem to be too bright, and didn't seem to stay open too long,
but I don't know if that's because I changed some settings in the "Window
effects" . . . I did that yesterday, I checked the two bottom boxes on the
first page . . . ??? Anyway, overall, nothing too crazy going on . . . '12
