Re: [lubuntu-users] Discourse forum seems broken (Mateusz Konieczny) (Nio W)

2022-10-26 Thread uninvol...@outlook.com

Yup. Discourse is broken.

I tried on three devices, using two different ISPs. At best, I can load
the site. I then can't click anything, nor can I scroll. With Firefox on
a mobile phone it will not even load the full page.

Neither T-Mobile nor Hughes Net connections worked.

I used different browsers on each device, so I'd say that'd be
reasonably thorough testing. I conclude that it's broken. Yup...

Hi Mateusz,

It seems broken for me too. I cannot scroll down (so I cannot see the
bottom alias end) of a thread (I tested more one thread).

So I hope someone with enough privileges on the website can fix the problem.

Best regards
Nio

Gents:

This is a problem that does also "happen" to me . . . most often
specifically if I'm running Lubuntu, links from digests won't work or
forum opens to blank page. But, if I flip over to another distro,
then sometimes it will work . . . "ironic" no?

There is a gent who is in charge . . . might have his name in the
rolodex if he doesn't pick up the phone in a bit . . . can't recall
right now. He often thinks it relates to something in the browser . .
. but the problem does recur . . . . Maybe try flipping to another
browser???

Re: [lubuntu-users] 18.04 LTS support length? (uninvol...@outlook.com)

2020-05-25 Thread uninvol...@outlook.com

OK, glad to hear that, but if you were following the gist of it, you **might** be able to upgrade to the
newest LTS . . . and then simply add "lxde" . . . and you would have the tried and true, but
"olden" "lxde" GUI, stacked on the freshest LTS??

It might be as simple as "sudo apt install lxde" . . . but it might be something like
"sudo apt install lxde-desktop-environment"  ???  If you looked in synaptic it might show
you how it would like to be commanded.

But possibly the difference between "lxde" and what is offered now, "lxqt desktop" might
be minimal and provide extended support, over the choice for "lxde"???  The great joy of all
flavors linux is almost unlimited choices and any choice made can be changed, etc.

I like to run a build that stays close to the defaults, but I'm likely to end
up finding a way to keep LXDE going in perpetuity - unless there are security
issues with it. It's a pretty mature DE and hopefully I can keep it going.

I've tried LXQt and, well, I didn't find it appealing. I'll continue to test
it, as time allows.

LXDE helps me make things simple and elegant, so that I can get a DE like this
pretty easily:

Meh... Maybe I'm just old and stuck in my ways. I'll keep LXQt in mind and test
it again soon.

Always interesting to see how OPs seem to disappear on ubuntu forums, and it
winds up RPs discussing the topic . . . .

Oh, I'm still here. My question was already answered and Thunderbird keeps
stuffing these into the junk mail section.

Also, once it replied to the respondents email address as I forgot to change it.

But no, no I'm still here.

[lubuntu-users] 18.04 LTS support length?

2020-05-20 Thread uninvol...@outlook.com

Lubuntu is based on Ubuntu and I've been curious about the LTS.

They announced that *Ubuntu* 18.04 would be supported for 10 years. Here's one
article regarding this:
https://betanews.com/2018/11/18/ten-year-support-ubuntu-18-04-lts/

From rooting around online, I find a ton of conflicting information. Here's a
thread where Simon posted:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Lubuntu/comments/9f6ws2/is_lubuntu_1804_lts_supported_until_2021_or_2023/

I now have no idea if it's 3 years, 5 years, or 10 years.

Having now used LXQt, I'm much happier with LXDE. I'd like to stick with LXDE
as long as realistically possible, though I understand (I think) the
difficulties around that.

Can anyone clear this up, thanks!
