Ами xvidtune го имат всички, то е част от X base 
clients на XFree86 или X.org.
Специфично за Debian е xdebconfigurator - Perl скрипт 
използван с debconf да 
auto конфигурира X-са, дори и неитерактивно, 
като използва discover, kudzu, 
hwinfo, xresprobe... и май преравя и sysfs /sys ако я 
намери. Не съм го 
използвал лично.

Това не използваше ли dccprobe което е само за 
x86 и ppc.

Мен ме е страх да ползвам такива програми - 
предпочитам ddcxinfo-knoppix, 
защото тази програма проверява (DDC) какви 
режими поддържа монитора. И освен 
това xvidtune има сложен интерфейс (друго си е 
да напишеш една проста команда 
`ddcxinfo-knoppix  -monitor`).

На мен винаги ми е вършила работа програмата ddcxinfo-knoppix.

Виж какво е писано на този адрес:

После трябва само да редактираш Identifier-а и си готов.
Тази програма, ако те мързи да я инсталираш може да я намериш в Knoppix и VS 
Live.

Има я компилирана и готова за ползване тук:

След като я изтеглиш се инсталира така:

преместиш кода в xorg.conf):

# installpkg vsxorgconf-1.0-noarch-2.tgz

Спрете Xorg. Спрете GPM (ако е пуснат)
с командата (с права на root):

# /etc/rc.d/rc.gpm stop

Стартирайте hwsetup (с права на root):

# /sbin/hwsetup -p

Стартирайте скрипта vs-xorg.conf:

# vs-xorg.conf

Готово. Вече имате конфигурационен файл xorg.conf.

Ако желаете да настроите каква да бъде клавиатурната подредба
можете (преди да изпълните vs-xorg.conf) да създадете конфигурационен файл
"/etc/sysconfig/vslive" с такова съдържание:

--- начало на файла /etc/sysconfig/vslive --
vsConfig_Language=bg
vsConfig_KeyMap=phonetic
- край на файла /etc/sysconfig/vslive --

Горните настройки са за българска фонетична клавиатура.

Следващите са за българска бдс:

Този скрипт се използва в дистрибуциите VS Live и VS Live mini-CD.

Здравейте група,
след многократни проби и безуспешно лутане по форумите, реших да пиша.
 Проблема е, че X-a не вдига над 80 Hz (refresh rate), а монитора поддържа
100. Под уиндолс си ги държи стабилно, дори вдига 120, на 1024х768. Под
линукс обаче неще. Видеокартата е Nvidia GF 440МХ,vsync и horizsync са
настроени според документацията на монитора. И ranges i твърдо задаване на
хоризонталната е пробвано, но неще. Има ли някакъв начин да се вдигне
refresh-a?

ìîæå äà ïðî÷åòåø XFree86-Video-Timings-HOWTO.
Àç èçãóáèõ äîñòà âðåìå â îïèòè äà ñè íàïèøà 
ñîáñòâåí Modeline, íî òàêà è íå óñïÿâàõ. Íàé-äîáðèÿò âàðèàíò ñïîðåä ìåí å
äà âçåìåø ñòàíäàðòíèòå Modelines êîèòî ñà ñå èçïîëçâàëè
ïðè ñòàðèòå âåðñèè íà Õ-ñúðâúðà. Àç èçïîëçâàì: 

Modeline "800x600" 69.65 800 864 928 1088 600 604 610 640 -hsync -vsync

Òîâà å çà 800õ600@100hz.

Ìèñëÿ ,÷å òîâà êîåòî òè òðÿáâà å:

# 1152x864 @ 84 Hz, 76.0 kHz hsync
Modeline "1152x864"   135    1152 1464 1592 1776   864  864  876  908

Mnogo otdavna ne biah puskal X server no sega si 
izteglih Slackware Current
i si podkarah X-a na 1152x864 no mnogo mi trepti i 
mislia che raboti na 60Hz.
 
I monitora i kartata mi gi poddyrjat zashtoto pod 
Windows bachkat na 85Hz.
 
Kajete kakvo se pravi za da se vdigne taia 
chestota.
