The main prob with this MedMus was the curtain (Dan. 6:18), certainly?
That's when Babylonian luters would enter the stage, I suppose.

I had to look that up:

Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting;
neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep
went from him.

Tuning Babylonion luters, perhaps, as the score will say Liuto Tacet, surely?

I played the Ludus Danielus year ago. Can't remember any of us dressed
up as lions, though.

Very good! Didn't Blondel de Nesle sing for Richard? Here's the myth
in the Wikipedia version:

...after Richard I of England was arrested and held for ransom in
1192, he was found by the minstrel Blondel, whom he saw from his
window, and to whom he sang a verse of a song they both knew. Later
versions of the story related that Blondel went from castle to castle,
singing a particular song that only he and Richard knew, and that the
imprisoned Richard replied with the second verse - thus identifying
where he was imprisoned.

There are some _beautiful_ songs by Blondel. I arranged his 'L'Amour
dont sui espris' as a lute solo.

That's when Babylonian luters would enter the stage, I suppose.

What I had in mind was this. And a stone was brought, and laid upon the
mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with
the signet of his lords; that nothing might be changed concerning
Daniel. (Dan. 6:18 http://www.mechon-mamre.org/p/pt/pt3406.htm )

Tuning Babylonion luters, perhaps, as the score will say Liuto Tacet, surely?

Quickly tuning like Francesco da Milano was tuning, I imagine, as Daniel
later eplains what happened to him and the lions (6:23). BTW Babylonian
was my fault, should read Persian, as Darius is the related king.

I played the Ludus Danielus year ago. Can't remember any of us dressed

My numbering is different! (King James, 1847 edition) In my Dutch
Bible it's like you said. Wow, I had no idea there were differences.

was my fault, should read Persian, as Darius is the related king.

Babylonian mix up of words, no doubt.

 Ludus Danielis, that is?

I stand corrected. I just found my music (20 years ago ...). including
a cheating score I hid behind a stage prop. I'm lousy at playing by
heart ...

Thanks for all the clips, the one from the Harp Consort comes closest.

[LUTE] more Luciano

2009-08-01 Thread Mayes, Joseph
Once more let me admonish anyone thinking of ordering a lute from
Luciano Faria - I am still waiting for my instruments - A fully-paid
for theorbo and deposits on two other lutes that are all about three
   years late!

He doesn't answer emails, phone calls, or (I'm thinking) smoke signals.
I am out thousands of dollars. I can think of no remedy for me, but I
will keep sounding these warnings to all and sundry: DON'T DO IT!!!

I googled the afore mentioned instrument order taker and found that you are
not the only one. Check out the Classical Guitar forum, I think you will
find the results both disheartening and interesting. I can speak only for
myself but it would seem you are out the money so it is time for a bit of
retribution. I would find myself a detective to locate the man and an
attorney to sue his socks off, in fact a class action law suit may be even
better. But that's just me and what do I know?

Didn't someone post his current number not too long ago when you last
posted about this? I'd search, but I am in the midst of migrating to a
new computer and can't search my old emails.

This is of concern to me too as I have an archlute of his that needs
repair. He said he would repair it for free, but a lot of good that
would do me if I don't get it back! Also, the cost of shipping is so
much that I have been thinking of alternatives (but not doing too much
about it, other than emailing the top lutenist here asking for
recommendations).

I think I mentioned that I had my Brazilian friend on Skype when I
last called Luciano and he told me the recording said that that number
was no longer in use. Right after posting that someone gave another
number, but I didn't call it. Do you have it?

Our community is too small to allow these things to be unresolved.
Surely someone can contact him.

That was an interesting thread. Results seem inconclusive. People do
seem to eventually get their instruments. It is always the not knowing
what is going on and no contact part that is most frustrating. If he
would put a post on the lutenet or his site (does he have one?)
explaining what has been going on, I think most would cut him a lot of
slack.
Personally, I don't think I'll risk sending my archlute all that ways.
If only I was going through Vancouver I know Ray Nurse or Grant
Tomlinson would be able to fix this thing up, not to mention any
number of other luthiers all over the world. Unfortunately, I'll pay
premium price here in Japan, I think.
