[LUTE] Tab to grand staff in Fronimo
I'd like to translate some lute duets into grand staff for a harpist but I'm a little intimidated by the Fronimo process (that's what I have and I can't go buying something new at this point). I tried the simple Translate-to-Mensural -->Grandstaff but it doesn't look musician-friendly and I don't know how to take it to the next level. Has anyone done this and could they help me off-line (if nec)? Sean To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html

[BAROQUE-LUTE] What is this Scottish(?) melody in ms. Balcarres?
Dear lutenists, I happened to meet one melody in the Balcarres' ms., which I know I know from the times of my early student years - it was actually a recorded example in the appendix record of one VERY early book about computer music (!). The piece was called with a name that was somehow connected to a Scottish military march; I cannot remember the actual name... Anyhow that same melody is in the Balcarres ms., number 186: "The canaries, the new way, in Mr. McLaughlan's fashion, by mr. Beck". The beginning of the piece is actually march-like, while only the end is in 3! What makes me wonder, is that Matthew Spring in his wonderful edition doesn't give any hint of this piece being a song or some kind of Scottish march. My todays "y-tubing" and "vimeoing" of this 186 is in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBm6T7Uq5cc&feature=youtu.be http://vimeo.com/50544077 All the best, Arto To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html

Works fine with singles. Many of us have been doing it for years. My 3rd fret, Baroque lute is on its 2nd rotation. But as time went on I found it harder and harder keep them adjusted, and this morning it was impossible. I think the reason may be this. If you shim the bottom of the U up to the the correct height, then the string will buzz against the sides of the U when if the plane of vibration happens to be parallel to the fret instead of perpendicular. So, apparently shims may useful with unworn or lightly worn frets, but they are not a solution to deep gouges. Printer paper, 3x5 cards, and business cards all shim with no appreciable loss of sustain.
