[LUTE] Re: Perino Fiorentino

2018-07-14 Thread Tristan von Neumann

Thank you Arthur!

I hope this will be available in our local musicology department, since
the head is an avid lute player.

Have You played any of those hard to get pieces?
My level at the moment lets me play Siena No. 20 comfortably, also the
one in Donauschingen is ok for me. The others are still too tricky for me.

Pierino himself.

Dear Lutists,

whenever I (at least try to) play Perino, it's such a magical
experience. I really like this guy.
Is there any source I may have overlooked, apart from the Francesco
collection and the Siena Lute Book?

Thanks:)

[LUTE] Re: The Dark Lord;'s Music

2018-07-14 Thread Tristan von Neumann

I just bought one - the price was very reasonable.

Couldn't prelisten, but I trust You must be a good lute player because
these pieces are extremely tricky.
I would love to play these, but I guess it will take more time, so I at
least want to listen to them.

One piece I would have liked to hear, the Prelude of Preludes by
Diomedes. But You can't have everything :)

[LUTE] check your email addresses

2018-07-14 Thread wayne lute
Hello Lute List People -

Occasionally I check the spam traps for the lute list and I see messages from
people who are really members of the lute list. These people have one email
address on the robot’s list, but send their message from another address. It
could be because they moved, or got a new service, or it could be because their
provider changed their address. The robot does not recognize the new address
and so blocks the message. If you post something to the lute list and it
doesn’t get through, check to see if the address you are sending is the same
as the one that messages addressed to you use.

[LUTE] Re: Saturday morning quotes

2018-07-14 Thread Tristan von Neumann

Thank You Ron for this very poignant post!

What can be read between the lines, and what also came up in many
discussions I had about music:

Many people forget that music in the 16th century was not made to please
a great mass of uneducated people, but highly educated patrons you would
even today hardly find amongst the rich and influential people.
Therefore, a musician's aim was to make the best music, not the common
denominator - because if he achieved this task, he would be greatly
rewarded with a fixed income and a highly regarded position, or as in
for example John Dowland's case, a neverending successful European tour,
being welcome wherever you go.

Thanks for quoting Anne Smith. Her book is very informative also on the
abilities expected from a professional musician.
