Thanks Wayne I learned a lot from this list over many years Stuart Sent from my Huawei phone Original message From: Wayne Date: Sat, 26 Sep 2020, 14:58 To: lute net Subject: [LUTE] Switch to the new list? Hi Folks - I expect this list will close sometime between tomorrow and very early Wednesday morning. Nancy Carlin announced a list sponsored by the LSA recently. [LUTE] Re: Portuguese Lute Music anyone?
I don't think there is any. Sent from my Huawei phone Original Message Subject: [LUTE] Re: Portuguese Lute Music anyone? From: Tristan von Neumann To: lute@cs.dartmouth.edu CC: Yes. I don't doubt it. But where's the music...? [LUTE] Re: courantes, corrantos, corrente's, etc.
As a generalisation I think of the French style courante and Italian style corrente as very different. The courante as elusive, difficult, tuneless! and the corrente as lively and having more clarity. Sent from my Huawei phone Original Message Subject: [LUTE] Re: courantes, corrantos, corrente's, etc. From: Nancy Carlin To: Sarge CC: lute@cs.dartmouth.edu Hi Sarge, I heard all of Santa Rosa was evacuated because of the fire a couple of days ago. Are you able to get back to your house now? I think there are various sub-stylesà of courantes and even a couple of instances where the same piece is called a courant in one source and a volte in another, but I can't remember where I saw that. Maybe what I might think of as a sub-style is just the difference between a Vallet stepwise variation and a Ballard brisee variation. [LUTE] Re: Test 9od temperament)
You use your ears to move the frets? Wouldn't using your fingers be easier? Sent from my Huawei phone Original Message Subject: [LUTE] Re: Test 9od temperament) From: howard posner To: "lute@cs.dartmouth.edu list" CC: You might want to reread the part about using your ears. "Precise fret positions" is an irrelevant concept if you tune by actually listening; that's why your repeated demands for numbers are going unanswered. > On Jul 26, 2019, at 6:40 AM, Martyn Hodgson wrote: > > Thank you Stephan, > Would you kindly share what precise fret positions result when you set > the >'fifth fret so high that you can still enjoy and work your way > through.' > MH > > On Friday, 26 July 2019, 13:17:31 BST, Stephan Olbertz >wrote: > You wouldn't even need a tuner.
