 very
early
Wednesday morning. Nancy Carlin announced a list sponsored by
 the

Does anybody remember (Wayne? :)) when Wayne's server will be
 shut
down?
Isn't it time to migrate to the new list?

Yes. I don't doubt it.
But where's the music...?

I'm sure there was some kind of lute instrument and music.
Any info?

[LUTE] Re: courantes, corrantos, corrente's, etc.

2019-10-31 Thread s.wa...@ntlworld.com
As a generalisation I think of the French style courante and Italian
style corrente as very different. The courante as elusive, difficult,
tuneless! and the corrente as lively and having more clarity.

 Hi Sarge,
I heard all of Santa Rosa was evacuated because of the fire a couple
 of
days ago. Are you able to get back to your house now?
I think there are various sub-styles  of courantes and even a
 couple of
instances where the same piece is called a courant in one source and
 a
volte in another, but I can't remember where I saw that. Maybe what
 I
might think of as a sub-style is just the difference between a
 Vallet
stepwise variation and a Ballard brisee variation.

You use your ears to move the frets? Wouldn't using your fingers be
   easier?

You might want to reread the part about using your ears. "Precise
fret positions" is an irrelevant concept if you tune by actually
listening; that's why your repeated demands for numbers are going
 unanswered.
