[BAROQUE-LUTE] Re: Prelude source?

2007-09-07 Thread henk
Hi Markus,

Thanks for your reply. Do you think H. Smith is willing to publish/share
this prelude? Otherwise I will have to 're-engineer' it from the recording.

Greetings Henk

 Hello Henk,
in the recording catalogue of Peter van Dessel I find a note: performer's
 own prelude ?
The sonata is Smith-Crawford (S-C) 43 - you can compare it on
 http://www.slweiss.com under recordings/Solo sonatas .

 Best regards
 Markus

 Hello,

I am new in this mailing list.

I am playing several suites of Weiss and one of them is Dresden # XVI in
a minor. H. Smith has recorded this suite (see attachment) but he is
playing a prelude I cannot find anywhere. Did he composed it himself or
has anyone an idea where I can find it?

 Kind regards,

It could be so that Hoppy just improvised the prelude.
I think we baroque players should try also to improvise our own music -
that was the case then. In a way it is un-authentic if we only play
written music. Of course continuo IS improvising, but why not (try to)
improvise also pieces. Prelude is a good starting point, because it
can be whatsoever... An Allemand (etc.) would be trickier, not to
speak of fugue

I am not good in that - only some short prelude sometimes, but I think
that shoud be the way to go in playing baroque music!

All the best,

Arto

Hi Henk,
I don't know Hopkinson Smith very well.
But you can try to ask him (in Germany we say: To ask someone doesn't cost
anything).
Maybe someone has his email adress?

Best regards
Markus

Hoppy composed that prelude. It is not Weiss.
