[LUTE] Re: Morlaye again...
Hi Manolo, In Dick Hoban's The Art of the Lute in Renaissance France there is a piece by Morlaye with that name, and according to him it is from Ms. 412, fol. 3r in the Uppsala University Library. I think you could ask for photocopies from that manuscript for a small fee. The phone number to the library is +46 18 471 39 00. Im currently studying musiclogy in Uppsala, so I go that library at least once a week so if you need help in this matter please let me know. Hi all, weeks ago I asked the Collective Wisdom about a rare piece by Guillaume Morlaye, Premier bransle d'Ecosse, played by Christopher Wilson in his CD La Magdalena (track 13). Now I can say more, after reading the leaflet... :-) In it Tim Crawford explains that this piece, which is not in the printed books of Morlaye's music, belongs to a manuscript which is now in Sweden. Does somebody know which MS it is? The piece is of such an astounding beauty... Thank you very much in advance... [LUTE] Re: Morlaye again...
Dear Manolo, I found it. It is publ. _Guillaume Morlaye: Oeuvres pour le Luth [vol. II]: Manuscrits d'Uppsala,_ ed. Jean-Michel Natalie Vaccaro (Paris: CNRS, 1989), p. 193 (the second bransle is on page 194). The source is Uppsala, Universitetsbiblioteket, Instr. mus. hs 412, folio 30v, the first on folio 23. So it shouild be readily available in a good library. Incidentally this work, plus others in the CNRS comes in two fascicles. One is the tablature and parallel transcrption, and the other fascicle is just the tablature. A convenient way of doing things. ajn - Original Message - From: Manolo Laguillo To: LUTELIST Sent: Saturday, October 15, 2005 1:31 PM Subject: [LUTE] Morlaye again... [LUTE] Re: Morlaye again...
Hi again, I found a typo in my previous mail, the reference to Premier Bransle D'Ecosse should be Ms. 412, fol. 30r. The Uppsala University Library has a web site www.ub.uu.se most of the information seems to be in Swedish, but at least you can find their mail addresses there. If you would like to know more about Morlaye's and other French lutenists' connection to Sweden there is an interesting article by Kenneth Sparr at http://www.tabulatura.com/FRELUTE.htm Regards Jan - Original Message - From: Jan Johansson [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: LUTELIST lute@cs.dartmouth.edu; Manolo Laguillo [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, October 15, 2005 7:56 PM Subject: Re: [LUTE] Morlaye again...
