Or you could just ask Arthur Ness, the person who wrote the
   introduction to the Minkoff facsimile.

Thanks, everyone, for your speedy responses! I'm not sure why
   the
information wasn't more available on the internet, but I guess
   that's
why we still need hard copy.
  Thanks again,

I'm looking for an index or catalog of the contents of the
   Siena
Lute Book, but can't seem to find anything. I would like to
  correlate
the pieces on Heringman's album with tablatures, but he doesn't
   list
folios in his playlist.
Also--what is the significance of the Minkoff numbering system
(which Jacob does indicate)?
Thanks and regards,
Leonard Williams

2020-06-07 Thread Matthew Daillie
The numbering system Heringman uses is Minkoff’s, quite simply an incremental
numerical list of the pieces in the order in which they appear in the
manuscript.
I’ll send you scans of the Minkoff index off-list.
Best,
Matthew

I stand corrected. Goeran Crona contributed a lot concerning Siena on this
list, but Jason Kortis is the one who copied the stuff with Fronimo and made it
French.

As always: First check Sarge Gerbode's massive archive! :)
Sarge has typeset a great many editions by various people and also done
a lot of stuff himself, like the Cavalcanti Lute Book (great Neapolitan
resource with texts!).

There is a complete French tab edition of Siena:
http://gerbode.net/sources/NL-DHgm_gemeentemuseum_den_hage/MS_28.B.39_siena_lute_book_1590/

(scroll down for ready to go pdf pages)

Siena is a mindblowing collection, much of Francesco, but also check out
the unkown composers. The Severino fantasies are all gems, as are the
ones by Dentice (if you feel you need a challenge).

Also, Siena boasts with probably the longest Fantasia in Lute history.

Enjoy the ride!

Please can you link to Göran Crona edit? I only know of Jason Curtis' work

   What is IIRC?

Sorry, but I do not use Fronimo (Apple computer).

Dick Hoban's anthology is what inspired me to try finding more of the
Siena book. They are very nice pieces, and not a terrible challenge
   for me.
