Re: [lxc-users] Thrilled to announce the the launch of Flockport.com to    this list

2014-09-15 Thread Vit Ry
Hi LXC users,
I am extremely excited to announce the launch of Flockport.com to this list,
 its home so to speak.

That's really cool! :)

Thank you for this article: http://www.flockport.com/lxc-vs-docker/
It answers my old questions about LXC vs Docker.

Also, it looks like there are a typo...
Part Docker approach to containers
First section, Layered containers

- Docker users AUFS/devicemapper/btrfs to build containers
+ Docker uses AUFS/devicemapper/btrfs to build containers

Regards,
Vitaly.

Re: [lxc-users] Thrilled to announce the the launch of Flockport.com to this list

2014-09-11 Thread Jon Brinkmann
A few questions...

- How robust are the containers, e.g., how have they been tested?
- How secure are the containers, e.g., how can one be sure they don't
  contain backdoors, trojans, etc.?
- What standards are required for the containers?
- What's the support for problems with the containers?

Poorly implemented containers will do more harm than good for LXC.

Flockport hosts an LXC repo for Debian Wheezy that provides all the
features of LXC out of the box - yah! like in Ubuntu. Flockport also
provides a Flockport utility to let users view and download Flockport

At launch Flockport.com provides over 50 containers of some of the most
 popular web applications.

There is a significant information gap on LXC in the marketplace that
 Flockport hopes to address.

Flockport wants to make containers accessible to a much wider audience and
articulate and provide a broader use of containers as lightweight,
 portable
and extremely fast alternative to virtualization.

We have comprehensive documentation on setting up and using LXC.
We would absolutely love your feedback and thoughts. Thanks Stephane and

We have also put up an indepth piece on the key difference between LXC and

Bravo - as an old openvz/virtuozzo admin, I much prefer containers that can
function as full blown linux servers if needed, rather than the single app
model of docker, which is wildly popular despite its rather limiting
approach.

Sure looks like a great idea, that has appeared at the right moment in LXC's
timeline.

Have to think that it will get more people using containers by giving them
another option to choose from.

All without having to deal with LXC's previous learning curve hurdles.

Best of luck and thanks for making it happen.
