Ah - yes, it should be safe with any recent kernel.  I've used
lxc 0.7.1 on straight lucid and on maverick kernels with no
problems.

 Maverick; the lucid ones are like, 2.6.35-rc1, whereas the maverick
 builds go up to -rc5. :(

 Follow the Ubuntu guild to building your own kernel instead; it's not
 hard, and will get you a kernel built for the right distro.

Unfortunately I think they're only building the new kernels for 
Maverick; the lucid ones are like, 2.6.35-rc1, whereas the maverick 
builds go up to -rc5. :(
