I'm not sure I understood the cause of the problem completely. The output in 
message pane looks ok. Perhaps it can be fixed in LyX. I'm on vacation this 
week and havn't any time. 5.6 alpha isn't different from 5.4.2 and 5.3.2 I've 
tried to compare.

It would be interesting to know whether this bug exists still with Qt
5.6 beta when it is released.

Bummer! I remember this being a Qt problem years ago that was fixed and now 
appears to be have been reintroduced. Any possibility the OS X binaries for LyX 
2.2 (when it's ready) can be created with an older version that doesn't have 
this problem? And if you can make the version you created with Qt 4.8 available 
I'd appreciate it!

yes, indeed. I didn't notice this until now. I have to check for the details 
again, but it looks like a problem with Qt5 introduced with version 5.4 :( - 
(See https://github.com/Swordfish90/cool-retro-term/issues/203). I don't have 
5.3 at hand but with 4.8 it works again.
