Sounds good, Dan. Please ask if you have any questions. Just as a
note, the way I got started developing in LyX was by reading very
carefully the documentation and sending in patches. I think it's a
great way to learn LyX well and to make a contribution.

Thank you for pointing this out. Having checked the TeX code for the
tutorial, I suspect this may be an artefact of the way in which the
Roman numbers for the start of the PDF have been generated. The code
used was presumably intended to hide the technique for generating Roman
numbers from a new user so as not to alarm them on first encountering a
LyX document; however, it has had this unfortunate side effect.

When I create a book, the TeX code for generating the Roman numbers is
placed at the start of the book in full view of the user and does not
have this effect.

So, no, it is a side effect and not at all the normal way of doing
things.

page 2 in the Tutorial

2013-12-08 Thread DWL
Hi,

I'm working through the Tutorial file. In section 1.2.1, there is a suggestion
to print the file as a PDF. So I did that.

On the second page of the PDF, there is a page number in the upper-left. I'm
not sure how common it is that the verso side of a title page has a page number
in a book. To be sure, it's a minor quibble, but as this is a document that
introduces people to the software, I figure it should be as flawless as
possible.

I'm using Mac version 2.0.6.

Thanks,
dan
