placement of figure captions
I would like to place the caption inside a figure float not under but on the right side of the figure. Is there a way to do that inside LyX? I´m not able Martin to write LaTeX macros so I won´t analyse dinbrief and Martin g-brief. I´ll go on watching this mailing list and wait until Martin somebody else did this. German users who like g-brief, which Martin is really good, will all have the same need. Try to tell to all LyX german users you see that g-brief is great, until one of them gives up and implements it :) JMarc -- +++ the lyx project user mailing list +++ To unsubscribe from this list send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the **Subject** unsubscribe.
starting with LyX
I've just started with LyX from level ground zero. I'have currently installed version 0.12.0 and just about to download version 1.0. I have no previous knowledge of LaTex whatsoever, let alone TeX, but I'd very much to start learning (still going through the Tutorial and User's Guide). I've read many people use LyX for every day documents, letters, ... whereas they use LaTeX from ascii input for heavier, perhaps personalized documents (others even TeX). The problem I'm finding right now is when I make a .lyx document and then choose to view it as .dvi or .ps. I can't see the entire document, parts of them just don't show up (in .dvi nor in .ps). That's mainly happening with a page set with numbered sections and subsections; I can see up until part of a numbered line. Then go to the next page and the text starts somewhere in the middle. Any idea why this may be occuring? TIA Horacio -- +++ the lyx project user mailing list +++ To unsubscribe from this list send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the **Subject** unsubscribe.

If you are really new to LaTeX, then you probably don't have the generated bitmap fonts for dviware. Normally, these should be generated automaticaly, however on an incorectly tuned TeX-system (Caldera OpenLinux 1.3 Lite comes to mind...) only root can create the directories in which they should appear. Try the following: (a) run LyX from xterm (with commandline "lyx" as opposed to just clicking on the icon) - this should give you some clue what is going on when you choose to View DVI; (b) run LyX as root, reopening the same document that you had problems with as a regular user.
