It appears that any two consecutive displayed formulas end up being
separated by a \n\n, thus creating an extraneous paragraph break. This
causes the extra space seen by Niki. A typical output looks like

aa
\[
b\]

\[
c\]
dd

(this is in nice LaTeX).

Alejandro, do you know how to fix that? I tried to follow the code and
have to admit that I gave up.
