here are some doubts on the use of lyx, I wonder if you know how to help me:

1. I'm using apalike references style which formats each entry like (key,
year), but in some cases, not all, I need an entry such as (year). Is there any
way of doing this and keep using apalike styles?

2 . How should I manage to have two tables side-by-side in a page, each which
its own caption?

3. Is there any way to change headings' font? I'm using a fancy page style, and

possible?

Hello,

I do not see another way of using GIF than a tool like ImageMagic.
However, it is probably possible to specify a resolution to ImageMagic
to get a good-looking images. There is not reason why the result
should be bad.

JMarc

It might be bad if a resizing takes place, so take care to resize
the gif to the final size before converting to eps.
Converting to grayscale is a good idea as well if the final document
is bw.

the jump to docbook for my configuration lack some libraries and I had no
time to query they

sgml/lyx is only valuable with the use of sgml tools wich developpement is
stopped in favor of docbook.

to add more tags one will rewrite the tools to accomodate them. Thos is
likely to be very difficult, but depends of the goal to be achieved

what do you want to do with sgml?

native sgml tools wants to spread text in a variety of formats and should
accomodate all of them, beeing by the fact the smaller common denominator.
I beg that one of these formats don't allow table, for example, for this
is what I lack the most.

If you want only to use one or two of the varioux text mode available (for
example postscript printing and html, you can patch the various utilities
to accomodate this - open source is made for that - In fatc, I beg I will
soon switch to the latext lyx version, for it exports directly to html and
this is what I want.

hope this help.
