Precompiled LyX 1.14 on Solaris

2000-03-17 Thread Wail Gueaieb

Does anyone know where/how I can download a
precompiled version of LyX 1.1.4 on a Solaris OS?

I am after the school's Solaris operator to install
LyX 1.1.4. He said he couldn't compile the source code so the only way he's
installing it is to get him a precompiled version!

Any help is greatly appreciated.

That's surprising, I do not see why... Tell me if you see it reappear.
It does maybe depend on what you do before File-Open.

Typesetting abbrevations and possible LyX automagics

2000-03-17 Thread Frank Mahler

Hi there!

I just had a discussion on how to typeset abbrevations in TeX in the
german group de.comp.text.tex. In german you should set the abbrevation
z. B. as follows:

here starts the text z.\,B.\ here comes the rest of the text...

So in LyX I have to mark \, and \[space] as ERT (evil red text), to get
good looking results, esp. regarding multicolumn environments with
justified borders...

I would like a special feature in LyX that typesets these abbrevations
automatically. This could be quite nifty! (Unfortunately this only seems
a nice feature for german typesetting, because in english texts, e.g.
abbrevations are typset "compressed")

Good idea (TM) or to bad to programme? Please tell me what you think.

TIA,
 Frank

I have not been able to reproduce it. Could you give me step-by-step
instructions? A backtrace would be nice too.

Well, this is a problem we are actively working on, and I'll be sure
to release a new fix* patch when we find it. Sorry for the

Please get a version of xforms compiled for glibc2.1 (aka libc6.1).
You can find a rpm version at ftp.sylvan.com/pub/lyx.

Actually, these problems occur because I forgot to ignore POTFILES.in
in my patch. You can safely ignore the error message.

This will be nice, but we need first to be able to attach a label to
an object (i.e. this label points to a section, but that one to a
theorem).

Add 'titlepage' as in the 'extra options' field of Layout->Document.

maybe you can do it easier:

Start your document with \frontmatter .
After that the TOC, abstract and such things follow.
Then \mainmatter
your chapters

at the end \backmatter

I have used this with book style.
Of course all commands must be in Tex-Mode.

for the introduction use the chapter* style or any other one, wich does
not apper in the toc and add
\addcontentsline{toc}{section}{Introduction}

i guess, you don't use a bibtex file so you are using the bibliography
style.
hit return behind the last entry and choose standard style. now you can
insert your tnaks or something else.

Various problems with lyx

2000-03-17 Thread Klaus Blaschek

Hi everybody,

actually I'm writing my thesis. Only 2 weeks to go ;-)! Therefore I'd be
glad if you could help out me with some problems:

- My title page and an empty sheet should appear before the TOC. (yeah, I
know I could print them out separately, but I have to transform the ps into
a pdf file for releasing the thesis on the web.)
- There will be an introduction after the TOC before starting with the first
chapter. The problem is, that I have to use the chapter style because I want
the introduction to be in the TOC. But then the first chapter is now the
second chapter and so on ... .
- I have to append a thanks at the end of the document, that means after the
bibliography. My problem is that lyx thinks that I want to add another
citation entry if I try to write something at the end of the document.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Regards, Klaus
