Be aware that this is a work around not a fix. If you open a big picture
with lots of colours you will still starve lyx of colours and still get
the segfault on startup. This indicates the problem is with your xforms
library version. Get one that is compiled for your glibc version or just
when you least expect it and least want it you will have lyx fail again.

You have been warned.

yes, in fact it is 0.89. but this is the only problem I have, so I
guess there must be a solution (hopefully...)!

Re: Pagestyle help

2000-12-01 Thread Nick DeClario

I got the headers comming in how I want them now, thanks. The problem I
am having is I can't get it to differentiate between odd and even
pages. I have the document set to single sided, if I set it to two
sided it works. The problem with two sided is it moves my margins over
for each page for the binding. Is there a way I can either get it to
tell apart odd and even pages as a single sided document or force it not
to move the margins as a two sided document? Thanks.

Newbie request: severe problem with fontenc in LyX with latex2html

2000-12-01 Thread Heiko Schroeder

My aim: I want to create a HTML-Output with LyX using "Export HTML".

My problem: I get the folowing message although I put in the LaTeX preamble
\usepackage {html, fontenc, url} and fontenc.sty, html.sty do exist:

No implementation found for package: fontenc ...
No implementation found for package: url ...

No implementation found for style 'fontenc'
No implementation found for style 'url'

redefining command \url
previous meaning of \url will be lost

The ???.aux file was not found

Unknown commands IfFileExists

My greater problem ;-)): I did not find any troubleshootings or any hints in
the latex2html, not in the lyx.manual and not in the well written book of
Kofler (which contents a splendid chapter about LyX)

My greatest problem: I cannot get any connect with the mailing list archive
of latex2html mailing-list archive (server is obviously down) and even the
searching inside the lyx.mailing-list ist not possible.

My greatest wish ;-)): to get any little hint to solve the problem

Thanks a lot
Heiko

Indeed, that's it! I changed the color depth on my laptop to 16 Bit and now
Lyx 1.1.5 works.

Thanks to you, Phil, and to all the others how helped me.

References menu doesnot open

2000-12-01 Thread Guenter Milde

I'm using lyx 1.1.5.fix2 (german localisation) and came across a (not servere but
annoying) problem.
Inserting references via the references menu (Referenzen) is tedious, as
this menu does not open from keyboard. this is due to
failure to open-menu: I tried in the minibuffer
   open-menu Referenzen
and nothing happened (althoug e.g. open-menu Datei works)

Does anyone have a clou why this is as it is?

Can't make Lyx 1.1.5 on Redhat 7.0

2000-12-01 Thread Dirk Feyerabend

Hi, folks!
I've got the following problem.
I installed Red Hat 7.0 on my machine just a vew days ago and installed
my old Lyx 1.05 on in. Everything worked fine...
Yesterday i downloaded Lyx 1.1.15 and tried to install it but without
success. I can configure Lyx without any problems, but when I try to
"make" it I get a strange error message like "rekursiver Fehler"
(recursive error?).

By the way I encounter the same problems trying to install KWintv.

Any ideas?

regards Dirk

Check your Xforms version (ldd `which lyx`). If it is 0.89 you might
try 0.88 instead. I had some problems with 0.89 (but thanks to people in
this list, I finally got LyX working with 0.89 too).

Re: Installing Problems

Try altering the graphics resolution, your desktop machine has probably
got a higher bit depth than your laptop, and qt tends to core dump under
what has been termed `colour starvation'.

BTW using higher than 8-bit depth solved this problem for me!

All configurations are dealt in the Edit->Preferences menu that overrides
any preference from the old lyxrc files.

The option is Look & Feel -> Interface, there you can uncheck that option.

I had this problem, because as default lyx intercepts the X dead key.

Search this and change it, and all should work fine.

Keyboard problem

2000-12-01 Thread Guido Milanese

Dear all,

after upgrading from SuSE 6.4 to 7.0 I had a lot of problems,
including this minor one. The so called "dead key" works well in
KDE applications (as kwrite) and in a console under X. So I can
write for example

(deadkey ") u

to obtain u with umlaut (ü). I had been using this feature in LyX
for some time now, but after this upgrade i cannot use it any
more. What might have been happened?

I suspect this has something to do with my strange configuration
files. I tried to edit my .lyxrc file but the program ignores
whatever I write in it (e.g. screen fonts). Which file should I
edit? Isn't it the correct one?

thanks,
guido, from italy

Check that you have the same version on xforms on both machines.
Some versions of LyX, correct if I'm wrong, did this when they failed
to allocate colours... which can be a problem on laptops.
