Hi,

As far as I know: It happens only with lyx1.1.5.fix2. Later versions don´t
have this little bug anymore.
If you don´t like to upgrade now (like me) here's a workaround (I already
posted to this list):
Put a % in ERT in that line in which the 16 appears (in most cases it's the
first line), just in front of the first 16.
This won't stop getting a 16 each time you open the file but it avoids
disturbing your printed text,
and you'll never have to care and delete it/them again.

 I would like to have a \roman{page} numbering for my toc, tof, and

In LaTeX mode put one of the following lines before the section you want to
change numbering for:

  \pagenumbering{roman}
  \pagenumbering{Roman}
  \pagenumbering{arabic}

Remember that the \pagenumbering command restarts the pagecounter at 1. So
if you want to start with a different number than 1 you also have to add the
following line:

  \setcounter{page}{the_pagenumber_you_want_to_start_with}

Creating new output filter?

2001-08-14 Thread Joao B. Oliveira

Hi!

I have a question concerning the output conversion from LyX: I would
like to create a new output filter (say, PSNUP) that produces PS
files as usual and pipes them to psnup, so that I get two logical
pages on paper.

I was looking at the preferences panel, and it seems that there
is no way of defining new filters, only by changind old ones. Of
course I could adapt some unused filter, but first I just wish
to confirm that a new filter cannot be created by the user.

Is that true?

Thanks for any hint!

The canonical way is to define a new format (say .ps via psnup)

in very poor quality documents. By manually commeting this line out and
re-running pdflatex, a good quality pdf file was generated.

So, is there a way to comment this package out by default?

Autoconf check for lyx with linuxdoc

2001-08-14 Thread Arien Malec

I'm using lyx (1.1.6fix3) as a front-end to build Linuxdoc SGML. I've had some
problems with users either not using a version of Lyx that supports this, or
who haven't configured Lyx with sgmltools support, so I thought I'd write an
Autoconf macro to check whether Lyx support Linuxdoc.

I thought to query Lyx itself and see, but couldn't find a command line
argument to check (I could just run lyx -e linuxdoc empty.lyx, but I *think*
that on older version of Lyx that'll run the full UI, which would not be
desirable in a configure script).

I noted the textclass.lst file in the Lyx share directory, and thought that if
it answered to:

grep ^\linuxdoc $LYXLIBDIR/textclass.lst

Then I would be OK (I note, however, that textclass.lst in my environment
mentions docbook, but Lyx doesn't support export to DocBook (?)).

The man page for Lyx says:
The system directory is determined by searching for the file chkconfig.ltx.
   Directories are searched in this order:
   1) -sysdir command line parameter
   2) LYX_DIR_11x environment variable
   3) Maybe path of binary/TOP_SRCDIR/lib
   4) path of binary/../share/name of binary/
   5)hardcodedlyx_dir(usually   /usr/local/share/lyx   on
UNIX   and
   %X11ROOT%\XFree86\lib\X11\lyx on OS/2 with XFree)

Ack. What's this about TOP_SRCDIR??? Anyhow, my strategy is to search for
chkconfig.ltx following the above search (but ignoring OS/2, alas), and then,
in that dir, do the above mentioned grep to search for linuxdoc support.

Attached is what I came up with for an Autoconf macro -- am I remotely on the
right track? Is there a better way of doing this? (And if you have some
comments on the macro, please fire away!)

One of those tricky things that seems to cause many people to stumble

 I would like to have a \roman{page} numbering for my toc, tof, and

In LaTeX mode put one of the following lines before the section you want to

  \pagenumbering{roman}
  \pagenumbering{Roman}

By the way, at first I forgot to check Use Geometry Package, so that

Checking Use Geometry Package enabled Lyx to do the right thing. Especially

Default packages

Hi ,

Does anyone know how how to disable/remove default packages used by LyX?

Example: A LaTeX file generated by LyX contains the following command:

\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}

However, this package forces pdflatex to use bitmapped fonts resulting
in very poor quality documents. By manually commeting this line out and
re-running pdflatex, a good quality pdf file was generated.

So, is there a way to comment this package out by default?

Thanks for your help.

Autoconf check for lyx with linuxdoc

2001-08-14 Thread Arien Malec

I'm using lyx (1.1.6fix3) as a front-end to build Linuxdoc SGML. I've had some
problems with users either not using a version of Lyx that supports this, or
who haven't configured Lyx with sgmltools support, so I thought I'd write an
Autoconf macro to check whether Lyx support Linuxdoc.

I thought to query Lyx itself and see, but couldn't find a command line
argument to check (I could just run lyx -e linuxdoc empty.lyx, but I *think*
that on older version of Lyx that'll run the full UI, which would not be
desirable in a configure script).

I noted the textclass.lst file in the Lyx share directory, and thought that if
it answered to:

grep ^\linuxdoc $LYXLIBDIR/textclass.lst

Then I would be OK (I note, however, that textclass.lst in my environment
mentions docbook, but Lyx doesn't support export to DocBook (?)).

The man page for Lyx says:
The system directory is determined by searching for the file chkconfig.ltx.
   Directories are searched in this order:
   1) -sysdir command line parameter
   2) LYX_DIR_11x environment variable
   3) Maybe path of binary/TOP_SRCDIR/lib
   4) path of binary/../share/name of binary/
   5)hardcodedlyx_dir(usually   /usr/local/share/lyx   on
UNIX   and
   %X11ROOT%\XFree86\lib\X11\lyx on OS/2 with XFree)

Ack. What's this about TOP_SRCDIR??? Anyhow, my strategy is to search for
chkconfig.ltx following the above search (but ignoring OS/2, alas), and then,
in that dir, do the above mentioned grep to search for linuxdoc support.

Attached is what I came up with for an Autoconf macro -- am I remotely on the
right track? Is there a better way of doing this? (And if you have some
comments on the macro, please fire away!)

Arien Malec

One of those tricky things that seems to cause many people to stumble
(I know I did it myself) -- you have to put the units in as well as the
numbers. The price of flexibility. That is, you have to say 1cm or
0.25in or 50pt (or whatever).

There's still one thing to do:
Set the paragraph layout of your
"\addcontentsline[toc}{chapter}{Literaturverzeichnis}" line to "pagebreak
before" (or something like that) to get the correct page number, otherwise
you'll get the number of the page _before_ your bibliography.

As far as I know: It happens only with lyx<1.1.5.fix2.

In LaTeX mode put one of the following lines before the section you want to
change numbering for:

  \pagenumbering{roman}
  \pagenumbering{Roman}
  \pagenumbering{arabic}

Remember that the \pagenumbering command restarts the pagecounter at 1. So

Thanks Andre,

I tried changing the margins in Layout->Document->Paper, but every time I
inserted a number or character in any margin, the Apply and OK buttons gray
out and I can't save it. This behavior occurs whether or not I have "Use
Geometry Package" checked or unchecked (can anybody reproduce this behavior,
and can anybody get margins on the Paper tab of Layout->Document to work as
expected?

Thanks

backtitelpage.

did you insert a valid unit? e.g. 3cm

:-) :-) :-) No.

Now you know the true extent of my newbietude. Thanks. It works now.

By the way, at first I forgot to check "Use Geometry Package", so that
no matter what I placed in the margin settings of Layout->document->paper,
whether it was 1cm or 10cm, it didn't affect the margins of the .dvi.
Checking "Use Geometry Package" enabled Lyx to do the right thing. Especially
nice is it leaves binding space on the left margin of odd pages and the right
margin of even pages.

Thanks Herbert

Thanks Herbert. The komascript book class allowed me to place my copyright
page via the Uppertitleback environment. Not only that, but komascript looks
like it has a lot of other stuff that will come in handy.

Does anyone know what is komascript book class's intended use, and where can
I find documentation on that specific class?

Thanks so much

the problem is, that the makelabel is in every enum-environment new
defined.
write in preamble:

\renewcommand\enumerate{%
  \ifnum \@enumdepth >\thr@@\@toodeep\else
\advance\@enumdepth\@ne
\edef\@enumctr{enum\romannumeral\the\@enumdepth}%
  \expandafter
  \list
\csname label\@enumctr\endcsname
{\usecounter\@enumctr\def\makelabel##1{\hspace\labelsep ##1
Tag}}%
  \fi}

example for word öfter (the cursor is left or right
from this word):

insert-> index entry-> ofter@öfter

the first is for sorting, the second is the output.

Default packages

2001-08-14 Thread Piotrs Sidorowicz

Hi ,

Does anyone know how how to disable/remove default packages used by LyX?

Example: A LaTeX file generated by LyX contains the following command:

\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}

However, this package forces pdflatex to use bitmapped fonts resulting
in very poor quality documents. By manually commeting this line out and
re-running pdflatex, a good quality pdf file was generated.

So, is there a way to "comment this package out" by default?

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Piotr

I noted the textclass.lst file in the Lyx share directory, and thought that if
it answered to:

grep "^\"linuxdoc" "$LYXLIBDIR/textclass.lst

Then I would be OK (I note, however, that textclass.lst in my environment
mentions docbook, but Lyx doesn't support export to DocBook (?)).

The man page for Lyx says:
The system directory is determined by searching for the file "chkconfig.ltx".
   Directories are searched in this order:
   1) -sysdir command line parameter
   2) LYX_DIR_11x environment variable
   3) Maybe /TOP_SRCDIR/lib
   4) /../share//
   5)hardcodedlyx_dir(usually   /usr/local/share/lyx   on
UNIX   and
   %X11ROOT%\XFree86\lib\X11\lyx on OS/2 with XFree)

Ack. What's this about TOP_SRCDIR??? Anyhow, my strategy is to search for
chkconfig.ltx following the above search (but ignoring OS/2, alas), and then,
in that dir, do the above mentioned grep to search for linuxdoc support.

Attached is what I came up with for an Autoconf macro -- am I remotely on the
right track? Is there a better way of doing this? (And if you have some
comments on the macro, please fire away!)

Thanks in advance,
Arien Malec

One of those tricky things that seems to cause many people to stumble
(I know I did it myself) -- you have to put the units in as well as the
numbers. The price of flexibility. That is, you have to say 1cm or
0.25in or 50pt (or whatever).
