1.3.0 Maths Panel missing some button labels

2003-03-01 Thread Davor Cengija
I have LyX v1.3.0 (xforms) compiled from source on Linux Mandrake 8.2. No
problems except this one: when Maths Panel is opened, I don't see all the
labels on the buttons, but when the button is clicked I get a new popup
window with all the buttons property labeled (in that window).

My buttons look like

+/-
 DotsMisc
Greek
!( )+/- Misc<-- blue colored

So, the labels for the following popups are missing:
- Binary Relations
- Arrows
- Big Operators
- AMS Arrows
- AMS Relations

Maybe I need some additional fonts installed?

Cheers,

libforms1

2003-03-01 Thread Johannes Breu
I just tried to install lyx 1.2.3 on Woody 3.0_r1 and it stopped to
configure lyx because libforms1 are missing. I am afraid of going on
because the system refused to let me install libforms1. Do I need them?
What is libforms1?

Thanks, Johannes Breu

spellchecking in LyX-1.3.0 (qt-GUI)

2003-03-01 Thread Thomas Schönhoff
Hello,

I've just switched from 1.2.3 (compiled against libforms1) to 1.3.0
(qt-frontend). Besides some differences still to be explored by me I did
encounter some difficulties in getting started:

When starting spellchecking I receive this message:

The spellchecker has failed
I am sorry, I can't find suitable word lists for the language-tag: "deutsch"
How to adjust LyX to find these word lists? I haven't any clue where
these files reside!?

Anybody to shed some light on this?

I've installed Aspell  0.33.7.1-8, LyX-qt-1.3.0 on Debian-Woody (rc1)

Thomas

Try making a symbolic link from german to deutsch in the directory
/usr/lib/aspell (or /usr/local/lib/aspell), or use "Alternative
language" in the LyX preferences

Here (SuSE 7.3) they are in /usr/lib/aspell/
"whereis aspell" might help.
Have a look what files you have there.

Hello John,

thanks for response. Just for the sake of understanding:

ls -l /usr/lib/aspell

.
.
.
-.
deutsch.multi
german.multi
swiss.multi
I've to generate a link from "german.multi" too "deutsch.multi", isn't it!?

Thanks Matej... I just found out a cool way of getting the template from
powerpoint into a pdfscreen presentation in LyX.. the development
version of the free OpenOffice software now has the option of exporting
to pdf.. so I just exported the template from ppt to pdf and then
overlayed it on all my slides in pdfscreen!

No, you want a link

deutsch -> german

I think these are dictionaries for the new gnu-aspell (0.5.x) which are not
compatible with your version (old pspell/aspell). Did you change something in
your aspell setup?

I'd recommend to switch to gnu-aspell (http://aspell.sourceforge.net/). But
remove all old aspell installations before, else you'll get more conflicts.
You'll have to compile LyX --with-pspell.

Jürgen.

This cannot be right, since deutsch and german are two different dictionaries.
Deutsch is old german spelling, german is new spelling.

Preferences reset?

2003-03-01 Thread Nalan Turner
I know people on this list are fed up with my tribulations trying to get
LyX to write in Latin5, but this may be of more general relevance.

I'm using lyx 1.3 qt under Mandrake 9.0 and KDE. For some reason, LyX
will ignore previous settings and stop writing Latin5 characters. Doing
an etch-a-sketch on my system, e.g. switching from English to Turkish as
default language, solves it for a while, but then it goes back to its
Latin1-only state.

What? lyx-qt? No, it is totally free (both as a beer and as

New german spelling is in ngerman file AFAIK (and I am not

All parts should go together without forcing. You must remember
that the parts you are reassembling were disassembled by you.
Therefore, if you can't get them together again, there must be a

 Note that it is difficult to make this work correctly (for
example, it is difficult to know which are the fonts that you
 actually have and that TeX can use). Having a font usable on
 display and having a font usable by TeX are two very
different things.
Related to this (although, slightly indirectly) is this
announcement (for a while still non-official, so you have never
read this mail :-)
There is a new macro OFS available on
ftp://math.feld.cvut.cz/pub/olsak/ofs/ (BTW, I am not the author,
I have just helped with the translation of manual to English; the
author is Mr. Petr Olsak http://math.feld.cvut.cz/olsak).
Let me cite from the part of the manual for its description:

The OFS is a \TeX{} macro for managing large sets of fonts.
You can select the appropriate fonts comfortably by the names
from font catalog used by a font foundry. It means you don't
have to remember short names of tfm files and/or short names
of NFSS font families. The user interface of this macro is the
same in \LaTeX{} and in plain but there are two independent
implementations of this macro: first and more elaborate: based
 only on plain macros; second: based on NFSS macros for
\LaTeX{} users.
Do you think that this thing may help in creating more
human-friendly system for LyX managing fonts (so that for example
I would have three fields in Layout/Document setting \rmdefault,
\sfdefault, and \ttdefault with selection from full name fonts
(i.e., "Helvetica" instead of phv)?
What do you think about this?

Thanks a lot for the great help. It seems exactly what I want. But I couldn't do it ;-(
Actually, I have not adequate experience, yet, in perl or even linux so I need further
help. I have a file called newfile.lyx that contains (after exporting to Latex)

%% LyX 1.3 created this file. For more info, see http://www.lyx.org/.
%% Do not edit unless you really know what you are doing.
\documentclass[english]{article}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage[latin1]{inputenc}
\usepackage{makeidx}
\makeindex

\makeatletter
%% User specified LaTeX commands.
\makeindex

\makeatother
\begin{document}

This\index{This} is\index{is} a test.\pagebreak

This\index{This} is another test.

\printindex{}

\end{document}
-
Now, I tried your command like this

[EMAIL PROTECTED] Desktop]$ perl -pi -e 's:is:\n\\begin_inset LatexCommand
\\index{is}\n\n\end_inset\n' newfile.lyx
Substitution replacement not terminated at -e line 1.

I also tried it like this ({is}\\index) but the same error:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] Desktop]$ perl -pi -e 's:is:\n\\begin_inset LatexCommand
{is}\\index\n\n\end_inset\n' newfile.lyx

This is the error message I've got. I am sorry if I seems stupid.

Export to HTML, No math. image!

2003-03-01 Thread chiao
When I export a document containing math. formula to html format inside lyx,
the math. images (convert thru latex2html) of the exported html file didn't
show up on the web browser. If export it to latex format, and latex2html it,
then the math. images will be created and stored in a subdirectory. What's
wrong with that?
