LyX Problem: Using Figure Floats with Center-Justified Figures
Hello all, I'm trying to insert a Figure Float, much like seen in the User Guide Section 4.3.1.1. I am running LyX v1.3.1 on Windows XP using cygwin and x-Win32. According to the documentation, I should goto Insert Floats Figure Float from the menu bar. I have no trouble doing this. It then says to Insert Figure. I do not have this option, rather I have Insert Graphics. I can place the file into the document, but it is left-justified and the Caption is centered. I have searched and searched through the options trying to figure out how to make the picture centered as well. Referring to the source of the User guide, I notice that there are \begin{center} and \end{center} tags placed around the \includegraphics[] tag. Is there a way to set this to a default option or is it possible from within my version of LyX to get the image to center with respect to the caption? I have been able to copy the Figure Float from the User Guide and paste it into my document. The {center} tags pasted with the Figure Float and I have been quite successful with this workaround. However, as I begin to migrate from MS Word to LyX, I will need to include more and more images and figures, and this workaround will become a pain to remember to copy and paste the Figure Float from the User Guide. I would like to thank you for writing such a nice interface to the LaTeX system and I appreciate the ease-of-use of the documentation. For months now, I have been trying to learn the text-version of LaTeX and have not had much success. LyX has allowed me to gradually learn how LaTeX works while still letting me use this powerful tool to create nice looking documents. Any help would be most appreciated. Regards, William
Re: LyX Problem: Using Figure Floats with Center-Justified Figures
To centre a figure, there are two main alternatives. If you have come from a Microsoft background, the most intuitive will be to select the graphics, then Layout-Paragraph-Center. HOWEVER, this is not strictly correct. The correct way of doing it is to type \centering in an ERT before the figure. If you require more information, this question has already been discussed several times, and you should be able to find a number of suggestions in the archives (most recently around 17/Oct/2003 by [EMAIL PROTECTED]). It is supposedly also possible to centre all of the figures automatically using some code inserted in the preamble, see: http://www.educat.hu-berlin.de/~voss/LaTeX/floats/floats.phtml#center However, I have tried this and not been able to get it to work. If anyone has ideas on what I could be doing wrong, please let me know.
