Useful tool surely. However, you can find writer2latex that convert openoffice
to tex :

Perhaps this tool can be transformed for producing lyx file ?

lyx compatibility with other w-processors

2004-06-05 Thread Pol
Working at a document with people using word processors other than lyx
is currently impossible, since using latex as common format does not work
(even importing latex files into lyx is not easy; that is explecially true
if those latex files have been produced by kword or opensoffice).

I am wondering if it would be worth considering to develop the filters

   openoffice <--> lyx
   kword  <--> lyx

(i have no idea of the difficulties of such work)
Such convenient utilities would encourage people to use lyx.

Use the command \oe or \OE.

Thanks. Forgive my ignorance (and I have tried to look in the docs),
but what's the quickest way to type this? Adding an ERT box and then
typing \oe every time is a bit slow; on the other hand, search and
replace of "oe" once the document is complete is a bit error-prone.
You could add a shortcut to your local .bind-file, e.g.
\bind "M-o"	"command-sequence ert-insert; self-insert \oe{};
inset-toggle"
\bind "M-S-O"	"command-sequence ert-insert; self-insert \OE{};
inset-toggle"

In the User Guide, it says:

"This input method is particularly handy when you use accented
characters only from time to time. It works by default for latin1
characters, but other input methods will be used if you setup your
locale correctly."

If the User Guide is wrong, it should be corrected; otherwise, I'd
like to know how to set my locale for LyX to use Latin9 (ISO-8859-15)
(at the moment my locale is en_GB.UTF8, and LyX seems to use latin1).

The script used to convert files from one lyx file format to another
is written in python. Do you have python installed?

LyX kills X

2004-06-05 Thread Marco Beishuizen
Hi,
I recently installed LyX 1.3.4 on my DEC PWS 600au running XFce4 as
windowmanager.

Problem is that LyX kills the X server when I try to open a document in
the help section of the menu bar, like the tutorial or the user's guide.

Messages I get after the shutdown of X are:
...
lyx: SIGHUP signal caught
...
The application 'xfce4-panel' lost it's connection to the display:0.0;
Most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed the
application
...

Does anyone know why this happens?
Thanks,
Marco
