Maybe you put the display math in a paragraph on its own.

Try to replace any Linebreaks before and after the equation with simple
spaces.

It might even be sufficient to do a File>Restore...

BTW: File>Restore can also be used to update the current buffer after an
external change to the file (some regexp replacement in Math, say). However,
in my LyX 1.3.3 of Thu, Sep 25 2003 there are some annoyances:

* File>Restore will only work if there are unsaved changes in the buffer.

Of course I have saved the file before the external editing, so now I have
to do a "dummy change" to get it working.

* calling File>Restore brings up a "Save Changes" dialog.

When I want to reload from file, I surely do not want to overwrite it first.

LyX hangs

2004-06-24 Thread zong chen
Hi,

I have just installed Mandrake 10.0, which comes with LyX 1.3.3. I haven't used LyX
before, so I thought I would try it out. To this end I imported an old portable LaTex
document and tried to generate a PDF-file (using pdflatex). However, LyX just hangs. I
thought it was perhaps generating fonts, so I left it for over an hour, but when it
still hadn't finished I calle dit a hang. I then tried a one line document, which did
finish, but it took a long time (on a 1.1 GHz PC). Any suggestions?

Regards.

Peter,

I have their svmono class installed. It turns out that what the TeX
checker saw were two blank lines _after_ another equation so it's a
non-issue. The spacing in the .lyx, .tex and the .dvi display all are
correct. That's why I couldn't find the problem.

However, I still haven't figured out how to get pagination correct in
/frontmatter.

As you\'ve mentoined that you are writing \'for\' Springer -> ask them
which style you have to use.

Springer does provide a hugde set of predefined LaTex-Styles for their
magazines and books and these will inculde their special requirenments for
equations, theorems and so on...

E.g. I adapted their svmono-book-style for my own stuff and use this also
via lyx (had to add a .layout for it -> search this mailing-list for this
issue)

Also have a look at:

To continue (I think this is the last one I haven't figured out myself):

Third, they want display equations to not have a blank line above it. This
is in case a page begins with an equation. Is this something that is
addressed by ERT before each display mode equation? I insert the equation by
pressing ctrl-shift-m and the box is placed centered on the next line. When
typeset there is a space there that appears to be about one line in size.

Thanks again,

LyX and LaTeX Questions

2004-06-24 Thread Rich Shepard
I've just received an e-mail from the TeX Evaluations Manager at my
publisher (Springer-Verlag New York). Some of the requested changes are
simple, others are currently beyond my level of expertise. So, I'm going to
be asking for both explanations and assistance in translating from the
provided LaTeX into LyX.

First, a simple question: what is the difference between \textellipsis and
\ldots? I've used the former and they want the latter. In my copy of The
Comprehensive LaTeX Symbol List, I find \textellipsis in Table 3: Predefined
LaTeX Text-Mode Commands and \ldots in Table 2. Do these typeset differently
and noticeably? Just curious.

Second, pagenumbering. The perferred format is to have the preface before
the Table of Contents, but the ToC should be paginated starting with 'i' (1
in Roman numerals). Immediately before the ToC I have an ERT box with
\pagenumbering{roman}
\setcounter{page}{1}
but, the second page of the Preface is marked "II", the third page is marked
"i" and the second page of the ToC is marked "iv". How do I control this?
That is, how can I turn off all page numbering prior to the ToC and then
have that begin with "i" rather than "iii"?

Thanks,

Rich

This is not addressed in 1.4.x (at least not intentionally). Jan, could you
please file a bug report on http://bugzilla.lyx.org with a minimal
testcase?

Use an absolute file path.

I think that this is something that has been addressed in 1.4.x by Georg
Baum, but I lose track. It has been a mammoth task to fix all these file
path intricacies, so it isn't something that will be backported to 1.3.x.

Bug when merging multiple lyx files

2004-06-24 Thread Jan Smid
Hi,

when I merge several .lyx files (insert --> insert file --> .lyx document),
the images are not displayed because the path to the .ps is altered. The
single files are ok, it just occures when merging multiple lyx documents.
Any workarounds yet?
