Be cautious. tex2lyx is not perfect when importing LaTeX and I doubt any
tool ever will be. But it should not be worse than reLyX.

1.3.7 is certainly the more robust version. 1.4.0 has a few new
features, lots of internal changes, and got much less stress testing by
actual users.

So dependending on your needs, 1.3.7 might be just the Right Thing to
use.

Not sure I understand. Why can't you run makeindex from within LyX? And
if not, why can't you run makeindex on the tex files afterwards
manually?

It can be worse than reLyX. Try to import this LaTeX file using both tools:

There are only files for ubuntu at the moment at
ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/1.3.7/ubuntu/. These will not work with
debian.

Follow the procesdure outlined at http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/LyXOnLinux to
produce your own packages.

i went on to put the piece of advice into my documents preamble, and
realized that i had a huge section there redefining the footnotes to use
arabics. i just had to remove that section, and the default was just what i

Following instructions from wiki to build may own package on sarge,
unfortunely fakeroot fails with this error :

lyxfunc.o(.text+0x96d1):../../src/support/package.h:128: undefined

Perhaps lyx_1.3.7-0.lyx.org.1.diff

is wrong ?

elimating PMWiki from search results?

2006-01-21 Thread Kevin Pfeiffer
Might it be possible or useful to eliminate the PMWiki documentation
(how one uses a Wiki) from the search results when searching the LyX
Wiki?

A typical search turns up the following (below -- about 65% of which has
nothing to do with LyX). Particularly if one is unaware of what
"PMWiki" might mean (another latex package?) the results can be
confusing and even disappointing...

Examples /
FormulaOnMultipleLines
FAQ /
Unsorted
LyX /
LyXOnMac
Tables
PmWiki /
AdvancedTables
ChangeLog
CustomMarkup
Images
MarkupMasterIndex
ReleaseNotes
SimpleTables
TextFormattingRules
WikiStyles

A link somewhere on the page "how to edit this page" etc., should more
than suffice, shouldn't it? (or a separate search field somewhere else
for meta-searches)

I tried this on WinLyx137 because it comes with relyx.
The file only partially opened.

I tried this on LyX140pre3 compiled by Msys for windows,
which comes with tex2lyx. The file also open partially, identical
to first case. I replaced tex2lyx -f $$i $$o with reLyX -f $$i

and got the same partial result. Then I removed the offending
"}" and this closed LyX without any display, using tex2lyx.
I put the "}"back in and the display returned to the same partial
process for tex2lyx. I never got a good process with reLyx

either and I have Perl in the PATH and Path_prefix.

There is an extra "}" which causes a problem. I had to run Latex
3 times on the file to see what it should look like with a dviviewer.

Quite odd,
Stephen
