Thanks for taking some of your time. I solved the problem by masking it moving from Book AMS to Book class. auto indenting
I have noticed that inner level text lines do not auto indent. E.g., as a new line is entered at the second level 'itemize' environment, that is assigned the first level 'itemize' environment. The same for 'standard' environment: Entering new line at a nested level brings you back to the first level, while i would expect a new line at the current one. I think this is a lyx weakness. Can we expect improvements on this side, in next releases? thank you -- Pol

Question about language appearing in running heads
Sorry to butt in after such a long absense, but the later versions of LyX have had a persistent bug?/problem? that I can't seem to solve in a reasonable manner. I have been using LyX for a very long time, since back when it had a Motif interface and did not really display math. I even contributed at one point, but this is all beyond me now. Here is my problem. I regularly use the AMS layouts, seeing as how I am a mathematician (I even wrote the original layout files, though they have since been re-written by others). Anyway, these formats automatically generate a running header for all pages beyond page 1, displaying either the author name or title on alternate pages. However, in recent versions (I am currently using 1.4.2 under debian linux), before either the author name or the title, on the running heads in the printout or dvi files, occurs the word english --- the document language. I can sometimes get it to generate american instead, but that is not the point. It is printing the document language label on the running head. When I edit the TeX file and comment out the line \usepackage{babel} the problem goes away. But removing the babel option within LyX does not cause the problem to go away, and can cause compilation of dvi files to stop with an error message about the language not being loaded. Has anyone else seen this, or am I alone? If the latter, I imagine it might be a leftover file in my local config, but I moved $HOME/.lyx out of the way and let LyX regenerate it, to no avail. Any clue? Any help? LyX version: 1.4.2 (also occurred with 1.4.1 and later 3.? versions). OS: debian linux testing on amd64 and x86 machines Problem file types: Any AMS document type with running heads. -- David L. Johnson __o | Business! cried the Ghost. Mankind was my business. auto indenting

ATM it is a bit painful (undo or copy/paste), but we'll introduce a new method for "dissolving" insets (footnotes, character styles, comments etc.) by hitting DEL in the first position of the inset or backspace in the last (quite similar to what is already possible in mathed). The feature is ready and in the 1.5 version, but it's not decided yet if it will make it into 1.4.3 or rather 1.4.4. Jürgen

The fonts I tried are default and times. Is it necessary to install additional packages or fonts in order to yield proper ligatures? Can I check whether my fonts are capable of that? Thx, Cz. Re: Package inputenc Error
Thanks for taking some of your time. I "solved the problem" by masking it moving from "Book AMS" to "Book" class. But of course I had to change some points inside the document. also, due to the fact I am not yet enough familiar with LyX (even looking to the doc) I do not find always the "state of the art " solution. Anyway, please find a sample document in "Book" class.
