Just a guess: are the headings in a shape that is not installed with Bembo

No, I couldn't see any either - looks like they have been removed.  This 
is a show-stopper for me unfortunately so I've had to downgrade back to 
LyX 1.3.6 for the foreseeable future.  Thanks anyway.

Sorry that I can't answer your question but you might perhaps try out the upcoming LyX 1.5.0 that 
supports glossaries natively. If yes, then you can download a test build from here:

Glossaries are there described in the English Extended.lyx manual.
