RC2 is a total catastrophe
Hello, I just updated to LyX 1.5RC2. Nice Interface, but many things have been f.. messed up: #Mathematical formulars miss "=" signs and greece letters (in PDFs they're displayed) #I can't save changes in the floats dialog if it is sourrounded by ERT #Many random chrashes #pdflatex converts my imported pdf-"image" to png (with really bad quality) before it is imported I hope there will soon be an update. Greets, Martin PS: I already updated Miktex 2.6, I did a complete uninstall of lyx, and I tried both versions of lyx (lyx.org, and berlios) and I'm using Vista 32bit -- Erstellt mit Operas revolutionärem E-Mail-Modul: http://www.opera.com/mail/
Re: RC2 is a total catastrophe
OK, I was able to resolve the PDF-Problem by re-setting the "is a Vector-Graphics-Format" checkbox. But the other Problems persist. I tried to copy the fonts from lyx to the Windows Font folder, but with no luck. Should I delete them from there, again? #I can't save changes in the floats dialog if it is sourrounded by ERT Can you elaborate a bit? Sorry, this was my fault, I used a komma instead of a pint in a floating point number. #Many random chrashes Please try to report back if you get a reproducible crash. What seems to work most times is to create a document with some (1+) formulars and then scroll through your document. If this woun't crash it, switching the graphic-preview to "on" will work. Does LyX write Crash-logs somewhere? This would be really helpful... -- Erstellt mit Operas revolutionärem E-Mail-Modul: http://www.opera.com/mail/

Looks like bug 3950: http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3950 which is most likely related to the windows font issue (I cannot reproduce any of those problems on Linux). I confirmed that now. > Does LyX write Crash-logs somewhere? > This would be really helpful... You have to use a debugger. Again, since I do not use Windows, I don't know what's the exact procedure there. Jürgen
Re: Itemize inside proof?
Nathan Russell schrieb: I've been told it's possible in LaTeX to put an itemize inside a proof environment without breaking the proof (so, no end proof symbol, no word "proof" appearing after the itemize). How do I do this in Lyx? If you want a different format (e.g. itemize) inside a given format (e.g. proof) mark the former and choose the fourth tool in the formatting toolbar "Increase indent". LyX-1.4.4
I have installed LyX-1.4.4.tar.gz with the options: --with-frontend=qt --with-suffix in the default path /usr/local. My version of qt is 3.3.4 on a Mandriva Linux 2006. LyX-1.3.5 is also installed on my system from the Mandriva DVD, and is the only version taht's work. In my /usr/local/share that's exist a directory named LyX-1.4.4 and the executatable lyx-LyX-1.4.4 is in /usr/local/bin in addition with lyxclient-LyX-1.4.4. I'm not capable to start this lys-LyX-1.4.4 from a terminal. The test after instalation it's finalised with "¡LyX is done!" or something like that, but the terminal rest in black after this... ¿Something help? Thanks in advance.

Copy the fonts there doesn't mean that they are installed. And also they don't need to be installed there. Remove them from the Fonts folder, then please try what I wrote in comment 5 of bug 3949. #I can't save changes in the floats dialog if it is sourrounded by ERT Can you elaborate a bit? Sorry, this was my fault, I used a komma instead of a pint in a floating point number. So 50 % of your complaints were your faults, so perhaps the next time you don't write that RC2 is a total catastrophe. ;-) What seems to work most times is to create a document with some (1+) formulars and then scroll through your document. What are you playing? Copy the fonts there doesn't mean that they are installed. And also they don't need to be installed there. Remove them from the Fonts folder, then please try what I wrote in comment 5 of bug 3949. You missunderstand me. Under Vista you only have to move the files to the fonts-folder and the Vista Explorer automaticaly installs them. So 50 % of your complaints were your faults, so perhaps the next time you don't write that RC2 is a total catastrophe. ;-) This reffered mostly to the random crashs. Under RC1 I could work just as normal. With RC2 this is just not possible. What seems to work most times is to create a document with some (1+) formulars and then scroll through your document. Well I guess there is a connection to the font issue -- Erstellt mit Operas revolutionärem E-Mail-Modul: http://www.opera.com/mail/
Puitting other things on title page
Hi, On the title page of my thesis I want to have title, author, and then some other stuff (for example the names of my committee members). However, if I put anything in standard format after the title and author, it puts it on the next page. How do I override this? Thanks much Nathan

How do I override this? I had the same problem when publishing a cookbook written by my wife. I just "hand-crafted" the pages, using standard paragraph for the title, but then centering and making the font large. Lots of hfills and so on in the first four pages of frontmatter. I've said it 1000 times -- the front matter is a one-off section that does not need consistency enforced by styles. The front matter is more like a poster than like a book, and hence I always create the whole thing with fine-tuned ERT. I've used fine tuning in front matters to do things the document class authors never dreamed of. WYSIWYM is great in mainmatter and backmatter, but IMHO the front matter is best done as WYDIHC (what you do is hard code). Re: Puitting other things on title page
You don't really need lots of ERT's for simple stuff. I as well use "notitlepage" for the document, and make everything myself via large fonts, vfills and hfills from within lyx. It comes out fine.
