'ugly' EURO symbol in lyx with standard font

I have the following problem. Whenever I generate a Lyx Document (using

Is this just me, or does anyone have the same problem? Is there anything

Problem with math macros (how to type pure #)

2007-12-14 Thread Milen Ivanov
Dear All,

I am using LyX for some months with no problem whatsoever. I think it is a
great tool and great fun.

However, trying to educate myself, I found in the User Guide that there are
macros and decided to try them.

The fun is as follows:

1. I type in the minibuffer  'math-macro fun 1' and the macro box pops up
as expected;
2. I type in the macro-box f(#1), but the actual source I get is f(\#1)!

Afterwards the macro, of course, appears as 'f(#1)' even though the box seems
to work.

The only workaround I found is to copy and paste the #1 from the example in the
User Guide.

So, my question is does anybody know how to actually type # without the
backslash.

Apropos, I am now on LyX 1.5.2 (October 07) running on Windows XP.

All the best,

Milen Ivanov

The UserGuide states:

The placeholder for the arguments are inserted as a backslash and sharp

so when you want a # as a argument placeholder, you type \#, to get

Preview doc. under Linux

Dear LyX users,

I'm new to LyX -- pls forgive if the question is trivial:

I'm currently migrating to Linux, and I've selected LyX as word processor.
I'm practicing at LyX under Linux and Windows as well.

I would like to preview/print some of the LyX documentation, but under Linux
it doesn't work. Here is what I get:

font TS1/cmr/m/n/10=ccrm1000 at 10.0pt not loadable: Metric (TFM) file not
fo [found I guess - the end of the error message is dropped].

How can I fix that? Under Windows instead, the doc. appears to preview fine.

Try to change the font in Documents Fonts and see if the preview
works now. Another idea, which is more or less plain stupid: does LyX
pull a TeX distribution under Ubuntu? If it does, which one? Recently
the modern TeX Live is preferable to ancient TeTeX and Co. Finally, if

Just to clear up this. There is an official cygwin version of LyX that
can be installed through official repositories. This version uses a X server
and installs into /usr. Then there are unofficial versions, downloadable
from ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin, that don't use a X server and install

I would like to preview/print some of the LyX documentation, but under Linux

How can I fix that? Under Windows instead, the doc. appears to preview fine.

lyx2lyx conversion failure

in the message. This is the same problem as seen on the list here
http://www.mail-archive.com/lyx-users@lists.lyx.org/msg59950.html .
There, Jorge says that the latest 1.4.x will do this but I'm using the

Try to change the font in Documents Fonts and see if the preview
works now. Another idea, which is more or less plain stupid: does LyX
pull a TeX distribution under Ubuntu? If it does, which one? Recently
the modern TeX Live is preferable to ancient TeTeX and Co. Finally, if

When you install LyX on Windows using this installer:

Just to clear up this. There is an official cygwin version of LyX that

from ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin, that don't use a X server and install

Problem with math macros (how to type pure #)

2007-12-14 Thread Milen Ivanov
Dear All,

I am using LyX for some months with no problem whatsoever. I think it is a
great tool and great fun.

However, trying to educate myself, I found in the User Guide that there are
macros and decided to try them.

The fun is as follows:

1. I type in the minibuffer  'math-macro fun 1' and the macro box pops up
as expected;

If yes, you can try out if it works when you reinstall LyX using this installer:

I'm currently migrating to Linux, and I've selected LyX as word processor.
I'm practicing at LyX under Linux and Windows as well.

I would like to preview/print some of the LyX documentation, but under Linux
it doesn't work. Here is what I get:

font TS1/cmr/m/n/10=ccrm1000 at 10.0pt not loadable: Metric (TFM) file not
fo ["found" I guess - the end of the error message is dropped].

How can I fix that? Under Windows instead, the doc. appears to preview fine.

(Linux Ubuntu 7.10 / LyX installed through add/remove applet.)

TIA - regards,

Daniel CLEMENT

lyx2lyx conversion failure

2007-12-14 Thread Jim Burton
I'm unable to open a file created in a 1.5.x version of Lyx in my older
one (1.4.3). The error message is that the file is from an older version
of Lyx and lyx2lyx failed to convert it, but I understand that's a bug
in the message. This is the same problem as seen on the list here >>
http://www.mail-archive.com/lyx-users@lists.lyx.org/msg59950.html .
There, Jorge says that the latest 1.4.x will do this but I'm using the
package distributed with Ubuntu and want to stick with that for ease of
package management. Where can I find a copy of lyx2lyx that will convert
my file?

Thanks,

Jim

How to get help in lyx

I've read the customization document in the help menu and searched in
internet but I didn't understand how can I do it.
I must do it only for a single document, can you tell me a way to do it?

Just a note that might help some people: Current cygwin versions install into
/usr/local, so you may need to reference /usr/local/share/lyx/fonts instead
of /usr/share/lyx/fonts in the instructions above. Just check to see what
directories you have.

There is a lyx-1.5.2-cygwin.tar.gz at ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/1.5.2,
(and comparable versions for 1.5.0, 1.5.1 and 1.4.5.1). These have all worked
fine for me, including showing math fonts.

[A personal view: if you are already using cygwin, or if you are familiar with
Unix/Linux, you should seriously consider using the cygwin version of LyX if
you need a windows version.]

variable margin width in texts

2007-12-14 Thread Ad Meskens

Hi,
I want to use several child documents. In two of them the margin
settings should be different than in the rest of the text.
I haven't found how to do this, other than adding two pdf-documents
after they are generated. I would like LyX to do this. Is there a
possibility of changing the margin settings within a document?

Thanks,
Ad

Try to change the font in "Documents > Fonts" and see if the preview
works now. Another idea, which is more or less plain stupid: does LyX
pull a TeX distribution under Ubuntu? If it does, which one? Recently
the modern TeX Live is preferable to ancient TeTeX and Co. Finally, if
your document uses Microsoft usual fonts, you should install them on
Linux.

The package you need is called "koma-skript".
When you install LyX on Windows using this installer:
http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/LyXWinInstaller

and have an open internet connection, all packages needed by LyX will be downloaded and installed
automatically when LyX is installed.

unaccepted document classes

2007-12-14 Thread Nico Winger
Hello,

I installed LyX 1.5.2 with LyXWinInstallerComplete today. I wanted to import my
own document class and template, which worked on my other computer in the same
LyX-Version. Although I reconfigured it and LyX found the document class and
the template, I'm not able to use the class. When I try to choose it in my
documentproperties, there is a message "LyX can't convert the chosen document
class". Does anyone know what it means? Do I have to install a few packages
handish in MikTeX? I can assume that it doesn't have bugs, because it works on
the other computer... I would be very happy to hear from someone soon, because
I need it on monday...

Thanks very much

regards

Nico

You need to export your file in LyX 1.5.x as LyX-file in the format of LyX 1.4.x. The resulting file
gets then the file extension ".lyx14" and this can you can open with LyX 1.4.x.

Just to clear up this. There is an official cygwin version of LyX that
can be installed through official repositories. This version uses a X server
and installs into /usr. Then there are unofficial versions, downloadable
from ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin, that don't use a X server and install
into /usr/local. These last versions cannot be made official because one
of the requirements is that they should compile using only software
available in the cygwin distro, and the non-X11 Qt which is used is not
there. And there is no hope that it can be there, because they want the
X11 version of Qt.

These are the unofficial versions not using X11.

Hmm. Being able to specify an output file seems like a pretty natural
function (with filename.fmt being a good fallback). However, I've only just
grabbed source from SVN, so don't expect any code from me just yet.

Fonts.. not installed - Debian Testing

2007-12-14 Thread M-L
Have trolled the Lyx Wiki - Lyx User archives and such but cannot find what i
wish, this being:

When I go into Lyx version 1.5.2 - Debian Testing
Document-> Settings-> Fonts-> [Roman] [Sans Serif] or whatever,

I get quite a few fonts with the tail end [not installed]

How do I install these for Lyx to use?

Thanks in advance for any pointers.
