all LaTeX-packages needed by LyX are automatically installed. All you

The standard installer does the same thing. Try Tools > Reconfigure and
MiKTeX should try to download it again.

"Reconfigure" is internal to LyX. You also need to let LaTeX/TeX know that
you've added styles. Run /usr/share/texmf/bin/texhash (or wherever Ubuntu
puts texhash) as root, then reconfigure LyX. You should see Memoir after
this.

Paul,

For the record, there's another way, too. I had one line that was all URL

string in \small{}, it fit on the line.

I don't know why that URL did not split just prior to '.pdf', but it
didn't.

Can you open the produced PDF-file with GSview or another PDF-viewer?

If nothing helps, I recommend a clean reinstallation of LyX and its components like the
LaTeX-distribution MiKTeX:

- uninstall MiKTeX _completely_
- uninstall LyX
- open an internet connection
- reinstall LyX 1.5.3 using the complete version of this installer:

It might take a while until everything is ready, but then it should work.

Just to say that exactly the same has just happened to me -- it does
look to me as if there's a problem with the web installer.

2008-01-29 Thread Antonio José Guirao Sánchez

Hello again,

I have erase everything in the file. This is I have only an empty lyx
file with their properties (preamble and so on). I can export without
any problem to dvi, ps and pdf. However the pdf file is not readable.
Moreover, some graphs are not correctly exported to dvi and ps (these
are the same for both formats and all of them are inside ../images/math ).

The first thing I have told induces me to suspect that the problem is
that something with the preamble make my acrobat become crazy (Acrobat
reader 5.0). Maybe that in the preamble the file use ifpdf package (but,
of course, I am not sure).

The problem with graphics should be different, maybe my converter is old
and makes a mistake while is converting these pictures.

I want to thank your help (Everybody) and the supply of the acrobat file.

I would like to compile it without problems because this will make
deeper my knowledge of lyx.

Thanks again.

lyx seems to compile, when acrobat reader opens, then acrobat tell
me that my file is corrupted or has an error. It says literally:
"There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and
could not be repaired."
I have had this error before when there was a problem with the
image(s) in the document.
I am currently using LyX 1.5.2 and when I try to export the Math
Manual I get an error that says I have to define a converter for the
xpm image. I am fairly certain that the "convert" issue will
dissapear when I move to a later version of LyX. I have deleted the
image and is able to export the document. So I do not have a problem
atm.

So my suggestion would be to remove the xmp figure and try again.

I gather your Linux setup uses the KDE desktop? If you have kdvi

a reasonable choice.

new Lyx manual about math

I down loaded Math.lyx, put in in /usr/local/share/lyx/doc (Linux box),
downloaded the extra image listed below, opened Math.lyx in Lyx and ran
pdflatex. Worked like a charm.

Hello,

I have tried with dvi and ps and it works. It is something about pdf. I
have tried also to export pdf with pdflatex. And I obtain a pdf file
with 362 kb but when i try to reopen i obtain the same mistake.

What were the problematic images?

I forgot in my original announcement that you have to download this
image too to be able to compile it:

http://www.mail-archive.com/lyx-users@lists.lyx.org/msg61505.html

After that i can use view-pdf. In spite of the fact that lyx seems to
compile, when acrobat reader opens, then acrobat tell me that my file
is corrupted or has an error. It says literally: "There was an error
opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired."

Oh, this is strange. I never had this case, also not with other LyX
documents. Can you open the PDF when you export it first to PDF using
pdflatex?

Not for EPS, but to get PDF images: When you have Acrobat installed, then simply go to the print
option and print your image as PDF. Afterwards crop the PDF image within Acrobat using the "remove
whitespace" option in its crop dialog.

When you don't have Acrobat, install a PDF printer like e.g. PDFCreator to get
the PDF.
