You could consider setting up an alternative (utf8-ready) greek.kmap.
However I rather suggest to switch the keyboard layout at the X-Windows level.

There are plenty of applications for this that do not depend on Gnome or
KDE, e.g. xkbsel, gkrellm-xkb, xxkb, just browse your distributions
package list for programs with "xkb" in their name.

In ERT, as the first element of the frame title (embraced by brackets).

When compiling LyX from source, additional packages are needed to
obtain full functionality. The default binary installation
(Synaptic/apt-get) will not install these additional packages because
they are not required nor suggested.

Just wanted to clarify.

Lyx 1.5.5 with Mac OSX 10.3.9

2008-06-19 Thread Heike Zierau

Hi,

I'm working on a Mac OSX 10.3 and with the newest version of Lyx I had
the problem that under file > export there only showed up "user
defined" and now other options. With your help I could change it by
choosing the formats I wanted unter lyx > preferences > file formats.
I still have the problem that the directories in /tmp/ cannot be
removed. I always get a message when copying, posting text or closing a
file.
I think about the time that I changed the export options, when I wanted
to write text in a text enviroment, not in a tex enviroment, all the
letters of that paragraph turn diagonal and I can't read the text
anymore. It goes back to normal after a while, but I still can't write
in a way that I can read and see directly what I'm writing. (see
attachments)

I have now idea how this happened, I never had any problem like this
with Lyx before.

I really hope you can help me!
Thank you!

Heike Zierau

This is a known bug with LyX 1.5.5 on OS X 10.3.9:
http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4907

It looks like the binary package for LyX 1.5.5 was compiled differently than
the previous versions. I'd really like to have a solution of this problem,
too!

Export Latex in Lyx on a Mac

2008-06-19 Thread William Mullin
I have just installed LyX 1.5.5 on a Mac Powerbook Pro with OX 10.5.3.
I need to export the LyX code to Latex format but the Export has only
rtf and Custom menu items listed. I have tried to use the Custom
command line but nothing seems to work. How do I do it?

This came up just yesterday. See

http://www.nabble.com/Lyx-1.5.5-with-Mac-OS-X-10.3.9-to17960412.html

(Is this a fresh install? If so, you shouldn't have had this sort of
problem.)

Subfigure captions without parenthesis

2008-06-19 Thread Adrian Peter
Hi,

I would like to have subfigures labeled with a captial letter without
parenthesis, i.e. 'A' instead of '(a)'. Is there a way to insert some ERT
that would accomplish this? I tried to change the subfigure.sty by removing
the '()' around the following two commands:

\providecommand*{\thesubfigure}{\Alph{subfigure}}

\renewcommand*{\thesubfigure}{\Alph{subfigure}}
But this has no effect when I designate a figure as subfigure in the Lyx
dialog. Thank you in advance for your help.

Adrian

I don't think you need to modify subfigure.sty. I just put your:

\renewcommand{\thesubfigure}{\Alph{subfigure}}

in a document using article and book classes and it worked (changed
subfigure labels from (a) to A).

LyX renumbered footnotes when I began new chapter---how to fix?

2008-06-19 Thread drew loewe
Hello. I recently installed LyX 1.5.5, updating from 1.3. I am using
LyX to write my dissertation. Footnotes are to be numbered
consecutively through the document, and indeed the output in 1.3 did
this. Now, however, LyX renumbered the footnotes, beginning again with
footnote 1, where a new chapter begins.

Here is my preamble, if it helps:

\ProvidesPackage{mla}\RequirePackage{geometry,setspace,fancyhdr}\geometry{margin=1.5in,top=0.5in,headheight=15pt,headsep=0.25in,
nofoot}\lhead{}\chead{}\rhead{Loewe~\thepage}\lfoot{}\cfoot{}\rfoot{}\renewcommand{\headrulewidth}{0in}\pagestyle{fancy}\renewcommand{\doublespacing}{\setstretch{1.92}}
% only for 12 pt\doublespacing\setlength{\parindent}{0.5in}
\textwidth=6in\oddsidemargin=0.5in \evensidemargin=0.5in
\topmargin=-0.5in\textheight=9in
\usepackage{url}
\tolerance 1414
\hbadness 1414
\emergencystretch 1.5em
\hfuzz 0.3pt
\widowpenalty=1
\hyphenpenalty=1
\vfuzz
\hfuzz
\raggedbottom
\usepackage{titlesec}

Help!

Thank you!

Lyx in Podcast

2008-06-19 Thread Wolfgang Engelmann
Hi,

I was asked to give a podcast on the coming sunday on LyX.
There are two items where I am not sure I know enough. One is the hardware
prerequisites. There are a few remarks in the web, but not much detailled
hints. I do realize that it depends much on what one plans to do (text only
versus many figures, presentations (powerdot and the like) with large figures
etc).
Secondly, dependencies on other software.

I would appreciate your hints.

Thanks a lot

Wolfgang
